On tap at Hostinec Richtár Jakub. Big beige head, quickly disappearing. Dark ruby colour. Aroma strong caramel, roasted malt, light coffee, light raisins. Taste medium to heavy sweet, medium bitter. Mouthfeel a bit sticky. Finish light to medium sweet, light bitter. A bit too sweet for my liking, especially in the finish.

On tap. Clear golden colour, soft carbonation, medium airy white head, rather quickly disappearing. Aroma of light grassy hops, light citrus fruits, light overripe apples, bready malt. Rather mild and watery. Taste is light to medium bitter, light sour, very light sweet. Finish rather sour, unplesant.

On tap at Hostinec Richtár Jakub. Clear golden colour, small white creamy head. Taste is light to medium bitter, light to medium sweet, strange bitter-sweet combination, and a little mild. Aroma of grassy hops, again mild. Dull and uninteresting. Though quite refreshing, this beer rather fails.

International Green Week, Berlin 2012: our second day and we find ourselves in hall 17 where food and drink from Italy, Switzerland and The Czech Republic were on offer (as well as a few other countries) I notice a spare table and a couple of barstools, so plop the wife down and peruse the taps around me: I get the wife a Budweiser Budvar and myself this lovely looking ‘Schwarz aus Bohmen’ beer. 0.3 litres in a vase shaped, badged glass. A beige head sat on top of the ruby red body and all was well with the world. The smell was of dark fruits and malts; raisins, plums and dates being the fruits, caramel and toffee being the malt aromas. The taste was very similar to the smells, but with some chocolate arriving mid-mouthful: might sound sweet but it wasn’t, smooth and almost creamy, but not overly sweet by any means.

Bottled. Clear golden, small head. Evident butterscotch aroma. Mid sweet with clean, rounded mouthfeel. Heavy on diacetyl and with a somewhat unclean flavour profile. Medium bitterness.

Bottled. Lightly hazy golden, brief head. Mild butterscotch aroma. Sweet and fruity with medium body and clean rounded mouthfeel. Salty bitterness. Fairly straightforward, but yet entertaining.
