Description
In the village of Hordain the Brasserie la Choulette is one of the last breweries in the North founded in the 19th century and still in operation. Heir to this rich brewing past, Brasserie La Choulette has retained the authenticity of genuine artisanal production. The brewery is a family affair, a profession, a passion passed down from generation to generation.

The first Dhaussy brewery, founded by Jules Dhaussy, was in operation between 1895 and 1951. In 1977 Alphonse Dhaussy took over the Bourgeois-Lecerf brewery in Hordain. Alphonse and his son Alain were up to a crazy gamble: relaunch top-fermented beers while around them, regional breweries were closing their doors one after the other. But after a long and hard fight, the Bourgeois-Lecerf brewery regained its former splendor.

In 1981, an amber beer was launched called La Choulette. A name taken from a traditional and popular game from the North, Choulette, a lacrosse-golf game, the origin of which dates back to Antiquity. In 1986, Alain Dhaussy, master brewer, definitively took over the family business which he baptized, Brasserie Artisanale La Choulette.

330ml bottle from Estaminet’t Kasteelhof, drunk at home following a beer festival to send me to sleep. Pours a lovely hazy yellow with pleasant lemon aroma. Creamy, wheaty mouthfeel. Nice wit.

Bottle. Golden beer with a strong white head. The aroma is vinous, yeasty and dry. The flavour is more witbier than a golden ale like with a yeasty, bitter and slightly banana tone about it. Overall a nice gently bitter and yeasty beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Amber beer within frothy white head and a bubbly body. The aroma is quite sugary sweet with a fruitiness about it, and the flavour has bitterness but is just way too sweet and syrupy. Overall a very disappointing pretty one dimensional beer, too sweet for my taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330ml bottle from Choulette Experience, Hordain. No rabbit piss or rotten cabbage this time. But it does have a slightly aged taste, 3-4 years old perhaps. Up-rate but not by much.

30th Oct 2014: 25cl bottle from Racine, Cassel. Bizarre rabbit piss aroma, bizarre off-taste like rotten cabbage with sweetcorn and a hint of vanilla. An appealing sweetness does creep in but it’s tarnished by something altogether not right. A muddled taste.

330ml bottle @ Estaminet t’Kasteelhof, Cassel. Pours chestnut brown with good off-white head. Almost medicinal brune taste with fruitcake and a delicious plumminess. If that’s a word.

Bottle shared in a car in Belgium. Pours perfectly clear honey-yellow with a moderate, white foam head. Cereal and honey in the nose. Light sweet flavor with dry, bready and crackery pale malts, hints of metal and toasted hay. Light in body with average carbonation. Clean but dull on the finish with more dry cereal, crackers, light metal, paper and hay. Weak.

Bottle shared at Kasteelhof - Cassel, France. Pours cloudy, pale yellow with a fine, white cream head. The nose holds pale, bready malts with lightly tangy citrus. Light sweet flavor with slight paper notes, dough, hay. Light bodied with average carbonation. Clean finish if slightly bland, with a bit more dough and paper. Meh, OK.
