Smells of pears, apples, and Pinot de Charente or any wine based liquor...Apple cider brown and hazy, with almost no head or carbonation. Makes up for it in the mouth, sweet candy sugars, with pear purée, warm alcohol, with a body which reminds one of a jam! Thanks to MaibockAddict for this gem.

A wonderful Easter Belgian. (I think I'll brew a Groundhog day Beer myself.) Bos Kuen has a complex aroma of fruit, honey and a whiff of bubblegum, good carbonation that balances the alcohol well. A complex flavor teases back and forth between sweetness and hoppy dryness going into a finish that slowly fades away. Very nice beer.

Bottle. 2003 I presume. Yellowish green tinges on the side. Orange/gold and sparkly. Huge white foamy head. Tons of lacing. Do I even need to say bottle conditioned? Big yeasty herbal aroma with big orange notes. Some light anise and honey notes. After the carbonation dies down a wonderful citrus flavor comes out (lemon mainly, but has some sweeter lemon like flavors, to be honest, reminds me a bit of starfruit). It’s like a citrus hops backbone with malt making appearances. Only slightly sweet, and just a wonderful example of belgian yeast done right. As it warmed, became peachy, extra orangey and slightly syrupy. Strong and warming and like usual from this brewery, I immediately want more. Medium full body. It’s just so well done and so not overdone. I need to do a side by side with this and Dulle Teve.

Rating #400. 2002 vintage. I am not disappointed! Number 400 is one of the best Belgians I’ve had the pleasure to sip. Pours a cloudy copper red-orange, with a medium light tan head of medium-sized bubbles. Sweet and sour malt aroma, with cherries and soy dominating. Very tart fermented cherry flavor, with definite woodiness and mustiness. Red wine characteristics as well. Alcohol is surprisingly subdued, adding nice warmth to the sip in the aftertaste. Reminiscent of New Glarus Belgian Red in many ways, although this is a darker beer. The sour body, tight carbonation, and alcohol notes combine to create an outstanding mouthfeel. Truly stellar. I’m glad I have a few extra bottles, although I may need to purchase a few more.

The aroma is of oranges, citrus, yeast, and cloves. The color is an unclear orange with a fine but collapsing head. The flavor is sweet of oranges, cloves, and the alcohol that discretely plays over the tongue. A fantastic flavor.

Beautiful amber color; huge head. The aroma shows initially some nice fruits, then some yeast spices. Good mouthfeel, good malt flavor, with a light spicy and fruity touch. Low bitterness, but quite evident, and pleasant, alcohol warmth.

Hazy golden color; frothy head. Malty and a lightly fruity aroma. Malty, grassy; dry in the front, but with a smooth sensation later; coriander. Ordinary flavors, but well brewed.

This is a thick beer you can see little bits and piece just floating around. Nice brown color with a beautiful thick head. A slight hint of flowers in its aroma. Not bad at all.

Bottle. VERY carbonated. HUGE pillowy white head on top of a hazy straw colored beer. Has a yeasty aroma that contains spice and a little fruit. The aroma is great and very powerful. While I'm waiting for the head to go down so I can taste the beer, the head tastes very hoppy (grapfruit and spice). The beer has a malty sweetness that stands up to the belgian tang and a fruity hop flavor. It finishes dry and has a lot of carbonation that leads to a bit too much of a fizzy mouthfeel.

A fiery orange Belgian, with nary a head. Abundant yeast floaties cry out for life preservers. Plum, grape, and strong candi sugar aroma. Flavor is very sweet, almost cloying, with candi sugar, wood, musty earth, grapes and alcohol swimming in the murky body. Sticky mouthfeel in the sense of watered-down corn syrup. Minimal carbonation enhances the syrupy, fruit juicy palate. Dense and tasty, this would serve as a nice dessert sipper.

Brown colour when held away from the light, but when held up to a strong source, ruby amber sums up the appearance. Pours a dense light tan/off-white head comprised of large bubbles which eventually dissipate to a small head. Aroma of raisins, figs, malt, alcohol, cherries and a bit of caster sugar. Overall, pretty pleasing aroma and appearance! Medium-bodied; Super carbonated; Sweet fruity flavour with a strong amount of the yeast coming through and showing an alcoholic character as it mellows out. Drying character in the palate with some of the sweetness lingering and the carbonation still feeling a bit bubbly. A slight sourness is noticed near the ending sages of the beer, almost reminiscent of a green apple puckerness...but it goes away fairly quickly. Overall, a pretty nice beer, and I needed to drink this one before the Reserva, to have something to baseline from :-). I bought this 33 cL bottle from Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York and sampled it on 10-December-2003.
