About
Mad Hatter Brewing Company was set up by Gaz and Sue in 2013, with just one grand in their back pockets, and a glorified home brew set up. The brewery has always punched above its weight, and was championed from the start by the brilliant Port St Beer House. They produce weird and wonderful beers alongside some classic pale ales, stouts and IPAs.

Bottle. Black, a dense cm of beige head that laces well. Aroma of lightly roasted coffee, sweet cream, roasted malt, vanilla. Just medium bodied. A bit caramel sweet with lots of coffee and the sense of berries you get with lightly roasted arabica. No real grunt underneath for a biggish stout is a drawback. Bitter and a bit astringent at the end.

330ml bottle [6.7% abv as per label]. Murky, orangey, dark golden colour with small to average, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Juicy, tropical fruity, hoppy aroma with notes of mango and hints of passion fruit is accompanied by initially mild, peppery spicy flavours which become more influential via the accumulative effect that is typical for chili. Taste is peppery spicy and tropical fruity, notes of chili, hints of mango, passion fruit and pineapple. Chutney IPA, sadly a bit unbalanced, i.e. overspiced.
