Description
19th century land-use plan of the area mentions a brewery owned by a certain Petronnella De Troch.
Even older records indicate that her father, Pieter De Troch, was running a brewery on the same site in the late 18th century. Petronnella married Egidius De Troch and in 1898 their son Louis took the family business over. Louis Married J. De Neve, and their son, also Louis, inherited the brewery and farm in 1936. The same Louis married M.L. Van den Moortel.
Their nephew Jos Raes and his wife M. Vanderhasselt took on the family tradition in 1974 and have been running this rare craft brewery ever since. In 2002, their son Pauwel Raes joined his parents into the family business.
In July 2012 Pauwel & his wife Kristel Schelfthout took over the brewery to continue the brewery tradition !

Bottle from Degarth; Date hard to read looks like 02; my third faro; Nose of aplly spices with some woodiness; hazy rust colored with a small off white head; flavor was not all that sweet caramel apple with only a small hint of tartness showing up in the finish as kind of an apple cider vinegar but very light along with some caramelized sugar. Not near as well balanced as the Lindemans or even St louis faros I’ve had.

Bottle, 4.75%. 4-5 years past BB date. Gusher. Quite sour aroma with earth and wood. Dark grey/copper colour, slightly hazy. Very small white head. Some black floaties, probably due to age. The flavour is sour and sweet in good balance. The acidic sourness is better than the sugary flavours. Hint of sherry/oxidation.

(Bottle, thanks to Marsiblursi) Sampled at a tasting night at Marsiblursi’s place. Clear golden color, small head. Strong artificial over ripe banana mixed with wine scent. Sugary acidic apple juice taste, with wine aftertaste. Watery palate, no bitterness.

bottle - Pours orange colored with a very thin head. Peach and a little lambic funk come through in the aroma. The flavor is very peachy. Who would have thought? It’s sweet and light. I found it enjoyable enough. It might work for someone as an introduction to lambics too. I guess I liked it more than most. Ah well.

(Bottle 25 cl) Pours a slightly hazy golden with a small, white head. Very distinct banana aroma. Thin-bodied with a very, very sweet banana flavour. The lambic sourness is only a vague memory in this beer. A soda pop much more than a beer. 150102
