Description
Il Birrificio Montegioco prende il nome dall’omonimo paese della Val Grue, a pochi chilometri da Tortona, antica terra di confine tra Piemonte, Liguria, Lombardia ed Emilia Romagna. L’avventura comincia nella primavera del 2005 quando un vecchio magazzino viene trasformato in un moderno microbirrificio.
Riccardo Franzosi è l’artefice di tutto questo, la passione per la birra lo ha spinto a iniziare come homebrewer per puro piacere personale ed ha successivamente scelto di trasformare questa passione in un vero e proprio lavoro.

On tap at Bir&Fud, Rome, 2012 vintage. Pours golden with very small white head. Fruity, acidic, apple, citrus, funky, vinous, wooden notes. Flat. Medium bodied. Nice one.

At a tasting, thanks, small bubbly head, murky Red color, aroma of chicken soup, glur and eucalyptus, eucalyptus shrubby flavor, some fruity sweetness in the back, strange bitterness. Really strange.

At a tasting, thanks, 2014 bottle, smallish bubbly head, very cloudy darkish Red color, cherry and honey aroma, cherry, honey and almond flavor, quite bland. Drinkable But not too exciting.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks troubles. 2009 bottle. Hazy golden. Sour aroma with wood, vinegar, wine, fruitiness. Sweetish flavor with wood, a bit of vinegar, soap, sourish note, fruitiness, eucalyptus, weird bitterness, alcohol. Weird. Not pleasant.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks troubles. 2014 bottle, 5.3%. Nice red color. Aroma of candy-ish cherries, a bit of graininess. Sweetish flavor with a bit of graininess, some cherries, faint tart hint. Light to medium-bodied. OK.

Bottle bought at Kamun Lab Pub, Genoa. 2014 version, 5.3%. Pours a cloudy maroon brown with an initially large but soon dissipating white head. Aroma is very light, fruity, cherry. Medium sweetness, very light sour. Thin body. Inoffensive, but quite bland.

From tap. Pours cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is wooden, dense fruity. Tanins, wooden, wineous. Vague acetone note. Dry. Lingering smooth fruity. Smooth fruity far finish.
