An orange beer with a white head. The aroma is quite hoppy combined with notes of straw, while the flavor is sweet with primary notes of straw. A down the middle of the road Czech.

Bottled. Deep golden, rich head. Sweet and solidly malty. Fruity with an oh so light touch of butterscotch. The mouthfeel is clean and dense. Medium bitterness.

Bottled. Deep golden, firm head. Sweetish with clean mouthfeel. The lovely oily butterscotch character that used to be the trademark of the Bernard brewery before Moortgat takeover is completely gone. Some citric hops tries in vain to cover the void behind it, but with a too clean malt profile Bernard’s beer has nowadays more character of standard international lagers than the top of the line Czech pilseners it used to be.

Bottle - Thank Dortmunder
Dark red brown with a very nice amber lacing foamy head. Wonderfull toasted aroma - honey, chocolate and aromatic hops to balance. Burned base flavor, fruityness (raisins, plums), bitter finish. Fullbodied, minerally berry aftertaste. My bottle was after its BB date, but that doesn’t seem to detract at all - quite the opposite actually. rerate: Slightly weird dusty ashen roast aroma. Dark chestny, big golden brown foam. Ok chewy dark malt base, restrained roastyness, a bit smoke, a few nuts and almonds Medium body, a bit oily mouthfeel. Leaves a burned caramel layer behind.

Bottle, courtesy of Dortmunder Amber, off-whitefoamy head. Chewy malt and solid hop aroma. Honeyish sweet malt base balanced with a pleasant aromatic hop profile - one slightly cloying soapy perfumed note sneaks in as well. Solid body, wellagerd mouthfeel. Estery aftertaste.

Metallic and floral saaz hop aroma. Golden, creamy head. Surprisingly full hayish body, soft mouthfeel, slightly tinny but otherwise approproate hop balance. Subtle aromatic exit. Why can’t all lower abv lagers be like this?

Swing-top bottle: Dark brown, huge fluffy off-white head, lasting ’till the bottom; malty aroma (roasted malts, sweet malts, coffee); very dry malty flavour; only a tinge of sweetness in the beginning; smooth and well balanced; nice, longer lasting dry bitter (cacao) aftertaste. Very well quaffable......!

(Bottle 50 cl) Comes as "Bernard Svetlé pivo" - gee, yet another Bernard variety. Pale golden, decent head. Quite typical light pilsener: rather watery, some hops - and that’s about it. Drinkable.

(Bottle 50 cl) It’s really hard to pinpoint the differences between Czech pilsener-styles. This is golden with a huge head, some impurities and heavily carbonated. Malty with a hoppy finish. Unusual.

(Bottle 50 cl) Comes ad "Bernard Svetly lezak" - I believe it’s the same as this, although the label strangely doesn’t mention the extract degree. This is classical golden beer with a decent head, slightly hazy. A moderate bitterness. Bernard is one of the new republics success stories. A run down government owned brewery, that is now completely modernized.
