Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

Bottle, Legendary Lancs Heroes, Crosby. Didn’t have especially high hopes for this for some reason, but I was pleasantly surprised...Appealing amber colour with a white head. Fruity, sweetish malty aroma. Malty toffee tinged flavour, with a dash of hop. Clean tasting and refreshing with a dry finish. No major grumbles here at all. Why tie a beer into a film which is more than 30 years old though ? Crap idea, doubtless cooked up by a chinless marketing exec, but not a bad beer. In the words of the Frenchman.... I don’t want to talk to you no more, you empty-headed animal food trough water! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries! That’s my 2 Fiddy up !

[on draught at the Old Road Tavern, Chippenham, Wiltshire] Tastes more like a golden ale at first but with a rough-and-ready earthy follow through. Drinkable but nothing special. Re-rate 21/4/2009 at the Peaks Inn, Castleton: Amber, mineral taste with some sulphur, leads into a very bitter, earthy finish. Not to my taste. c6

50 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with a redish glare and a semi creamy off-white head. Light roasted malt aroma with a light coffee-ish note. Flavour is roasted malt and coffee with a light liqourice edge from the hops. Nicely balanced and with just enough sweetness to counter balance the roasted profile. Light coffee-ish finish mixed with liqourice. Dry bitterness in the far finish. Nice one.
