Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

(Bottle 50 cl) Orangey golden, close to amber, slightly hazy with a decent head. Some typical notes of fruit and caramel with a distinct bitterness. But basically just another standard Bitter without too much personality - despite the odd name. 270405

(Bottle 50 cl) Almost coppery colour, hazy with a rich and stable head. Lovely fruity ale with distinct nutty notes and a marked bitter finish. Very fresh. 100303

Enjoyable british ale. A nice lightly fruity aroma, hint of persimmon and caramel. Flavor well balanced with a nice easy palate. Just a kiss of spicy hops. I almost feel like I get a touch of smokiness in the finish. True amber color, full head.

500ml bottle from Tesco. Quite clearly this is copper coloured, so not sure why it is called Golden. Thin off white head. Nice white flesh fruit aroma. Apple and peach are distinguishable. Bit of fartyness as well. Bit thin and tinny in mouth with too much carbonation. Shame this is pasteurised and too carbonated, because it could have been a good bitter. Finish has some tingly hop and more orchard fruit, but frankly I can?t get over that mouthfeel and the metallic deadness 2.4/5 re rate. Ok golden bitter

Pour is a amber with a nice size white head. Aroma is malty but leans more to the hoppy side. Flavor is completly weak. Small amount of nuts and finishes bitter. Prob nothing i would get again especially when its $3.99 a 500ml bottle.

[Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen] A nut brown beer with a nice long lasting brown head. The flavor is sweet fruity combined with strong notes of toffee, but also hints of hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, malt, and toffee. Nice.

Pour is a dark brown with a nice size white head. Aroma is a bready dark fruit with a nice hop backbone. Flavor has a nice toffee and fruit taste with a touch of those hops. Very bitter aftertaste as it goes down making this a very tasty brew to sample and could be a nice session brew.

An orange beer with a huge off-white head. The aroma is hoppy and slightly dusty - must be the Goldings, but it is also sweet and slightly fruity. The flavor is fruity and hoppy on a sweet background, but also hints of dust, leading to a fruity hoppy end which is slightly sticky.

I have never heard of this brewer and frankly bought the beer for the schtick - thus expectations were not particularly high. Sampled form a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer poured a butterscotch color with a medium sized creamy white head. The aroma is faint but has a hint of sweet malts. The flavor is also faint - some light malts, some nut and a bitter finish. Fairly bland overall.

Bottle: Dark amber coloured, medium off-white lacing head; malty and fruity nose, a bit vinous, traces of liquorice and roasted malts; dry malty taste, leading to an also dry, slightly bitter (chocolatey) finish. A goodie, especially in winter........
