Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

Sehr gut! Test vom 12.8.2005, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,13,13,13,14,13 - 12,85

Cask at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford One of my favourite session beers. Good resiny hops with biscuity malts and some fruit leads to a dry bitter hop finish that makes you want to take another sip. Good beer

Bottle at Fountain, Seabrook, Kent Copper coloured with off white thickish lasting head. Resiny hops with good biscuity malts, very bitter on end with good longish finish. Would definitely drink again. Re-rate drunk a bottle on the train on the way home from work and I gave it exactly the same score. Amazing. Little bit more put off this time by the pasteurisation and candy sugar, but there is a definite attractive yeast, hop, malt balance and a sharpness from the yeast and hop on finish is very good. 737314

Bottled (BB 02/2006)
Dark ruby with a big creamy expresso head. Aroma has brandy, fruits, oak and hops. Medium-bodied. Woody flavor with a good malt profile. Hops are quite dazzling. Bitter, alcoholic aftertaste.

Cask conditioned at The Mitre, Cambridge. Deep golden colour, low to none head. A decent session bitter, nothing wrong, nothing spectacular. Tolerably malty aroma and flavour with a decent hoppy finish.

(Bottle 50 cl) Amber-coloured, slightly hazy beer with a rather massive head that laces my glass. A rather disharmonic blend of aromas with a very bitter finish. A quite special ESB. 121204

Bottle Pours a dull hazy light amber with a decent foamy white head. Quickly dissipating leaving thin spotty lacing. Aroma is mild light malts and some peach or apricote notes. Mild hop aroma. Flavors I found to be flat woody and quite easy on the hops or bitterness. Carbonation was quite soft and the aftertaste, was soft and easy. I suppose it is fairly refreshing but I was hopeing for a little something more interesting. ...wink...wink

Bottled. Copper coloured with huge white foamy head, leaves much longlasting lacing. Maltish and fruitish aroma. Very sour/bitter citric flavour. A bit sweetish finish and aftertaste. I find this one a bit boring, though I am a huge Monty Python fan.

Hazy dark amber ale with a thick off-white head. Sweet floral aroma with a touch of butterscotch. Sweet malty with nice nuttyness and light bitterness. Medium bodied.
