Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

Cask at Moon under Water, Wolverhampton. Pours “bitter brown” with a small white head and good lacing. Aroma is just vaguely malty. In the mouth it has a creamy texture and flavour of floral hops on a caramel base. Varies between slightly sweet and slightly bitter. Pretty nondescript really.

500ml bottle bought at Gulating Ølutsalg in Tromsdalen. Steady, frothy off-white head to a clear amber body. Rings of lace down the glass. Moderate aromas of mid-sweet malts and herbal hops. Developing taste character of grain, leafy hops, and mild hints of spices. A note of citrus peels to a dry, malt-fruity end. Easy to drink. Fair enough. (Rating no. 20500) (Tromsø 25.08.2021).

0.5l bottle many thanks to Lore. Dark orange/brown body with a pearl head. Dried fruits like dates and raisins in the aroma with a generous amount of caramel and a touch of floral hops. Taste of raisins and dried dates again with tracles, orange zest and more hops than what you'd expect based on the aroma. Not so strong, but packed with flavors. Very nice.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours “bitter brown” with a small cream head and good lacing. Malts predominate in the nose. Initially in the mouth it is quite hsarp and bitter, but this quickly fades and some hops make themselves evident upon a malty base. Later on it starts getting sweeter. Finish is bitter and sticky. Pretty much run of the mill / inoffensive.

330ml can from my son's Beer52 box: BB31st Mar 2022. Drank on my patio on 6th Jun 2021. Clean and clear light golden body, fast fading white crown. Nothing to get excited about, but it's a decent enough Lager/Helles with the usual attributes of very little aroma or any strong flavours. Went well with my BBQ food.
