Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

Bottle from Tesco 4 for £6. Pours a pitch black colour with a medium sized thick creamy beige head. Nice lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, milk chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar and faint liquorice. Taste has all the same notes as the aroma with nice added roasty burnt notes. Very flavourful. Medium to full bodied with a very smooth mouthfeel and a long lingering roasty bittersweet aftertaste. Very well balanced. Excellent smooth creamy stout.

Bottle from Tesco. Pours a crystal clear copper colour with a thin off white head. Aromas of malt, caramel, toffee, toasted bread and biscuits. Taste is the same notes as the aroma, more caramel and toffee with a slightly metallic and earthy hop palate. Some spice and hints of grass. Medium bodied with more earthy hop bitterness on the finish. Very good bitter.

Dank Manon! Galbitter, geparfumeerd, lychee, beetje granig, onprettig eigenlijk en verre van een IPA of waar het ook voor moet doorgaan.

Bottle from Asda. 4 for £6. Pours a jet black colour with a thick creamy beige head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, dark rich chocolate orange, coffee and nuts. Taste is the same but with more pronounced notes of roasted coffee, dark rich chocolate, nuts and subtle hints of orange. it does not taste artificial at all. Full bodied, rich smooth mouthfeel with a long lingering satisfying aftertaste. Very well made excellent stout!

pours clear, copper amber over blonde. Small white unstable head. Smell is mildly caramelly. Clean fermentation profile, low hoparomatic features. Taste is surprisingly full. Rather bitter, nice malty base ( caramelly, white bread, mild breadcrust ) . Earthy, very mild floral hops. Nice creamy malty, light bitter finish. Nice Bitter !
