16/IX/16 - 33cl bottle @ home - BB: IV/18 (2016-1016) Thanks to Jerre for the bottle!

Clear blond beer, big - no, huge! - frothy white head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: citrus, grassy, bit sweet, fruity, grains, malty, little sourish. MF: very lively carbon, a bit too much actually, medium to light body. Taste: grassy bitter start, herbal, bit unpleasant, spicy, lots of coriander, dry. Aftertaste: fruity, some citrus, very spicy, hint of banana, bitter grassy finish, some coriander.

Organic spelt beer made by Warmenbol - the guys responsible for that hideous Liza Bio Tripel, so I’m afraid my expectations are low for this one. Made with - apart from barley - spelt malt, raw khorasan wheat (’Kamut’) and oat. Slow gusher, releasing a sharp hissing sound and some foam upon opening, but manageable. Thinnish, lightly lacing, off-white head slowly breaking open, over a hazy straw blonde beer with peachy hue. Very solvent-like and phenolic aroma of cloves, glue or varnish (heck, it almost gives me a headache smelling this!), band aid, banana, pineapple, soap, dry bread crust, hay, bubblegum, dried orange peel, old gingerbread, vanilla, lemon zest, home made apple juice. Estery onset, peach, banana, gooseberry, sourish with sweetish accents, sharply carbonated (numbing a bit), phenolic spicy hints and ongoing esters on top of a bready and grainy middle, somewhat oily mouthfeel (I assume this is established by the oats?), bit soapy even, with a ’deep’ and dim spicy sourishness from spelt, dryish with a bittering finish represented by earthy and peppery hops, bit tonic water-like even, lingering in the back of the mouth for quite a while, but malt sweetness, phenols and fruity esters dominate; the solvent effect returns retronasally and some ’jenever’-like alcohol warms up the finish as well, but does not become too astringent. Messy, teeming with off-flavours, but in terms of pure flavor, this is at least more quaffable than Liza. Not my beer even within the boundaries of the worn-out Belgian tripel formula, regardless of the special grains.

Bottle shared. The label shows the most freaky, horrifying sock monster I’ve ever seen. The sort of stuff that nightmares are made of. That aside, the beer is very hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of yeast, weeds, herbs, veggies and weird fruit notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation. Not very good, and nightmares about the label will probably have me waking up in the middle of the night screaming for weeks to come.

33cl bottle shared with kermis. Thin white head. Cloudy blond pour. Not much to it and not a great label.

Pours very dark Brown to black , good white head. Smell is bit bitter, some dark malts. Taste is intense, roasty malts, bitter, thin and too much carbo.

330 ml. bottle sampled. Purchased @ ALBO. Looks like the work of a new commission brewery. Bio spelt tirpel that also contains barley malt & oats. Hazy bight citrus, white bubbles. Nose is very sweet massive banana (chemical, big green) & plastic, sugar & buttery grains. Taste is butter & banana, green, faintly vegetable, sickeningly banana & butter sweet, sparkling, soap & low alcohol. Another beer produced at Den Hopperd that I do not care for. I do not care to much for these 80s – early 00s ester & alcohol generic Belgian small brewery tripel’s, this is green banana, unbalanced, chemical, sweet, jenever alcohol combined with cleaning products & very sweet butter. this one isn’t the worst offender, there are classical examples of this style, largely these beers belong in the past in my opinion even though there is still clearly a market for them. The whole is a bit lost on me.

Bottle shared. Dark brown with a ring beige head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, cocoa, licorice, overripe dark fruit, caramel and toffee. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Above medium bodied with soft carbonation.
