About
Tap East opened its doors for the first time in 2011 several years before the explosion of breweries across the UK that would happen later in the decade. Having run a successful wholesale business, along side the Rake in Borough market for a number of years, Mike Hill and Richard Dinwoodie were approached by Westfield about the possibility of opening a brewpub in their new site next to the Olympic park in Stratford which they accepted and after several months, lots of building work, and a brewery being shipped down from Cumbria , Tap East was born.

Today the bar offers a welcome respite from the mono-culture of chain stores that populate much of the rest of the centre, while beers produced on site have won a number of awards over the years.

On tap at the Brew Pub. Clear red brown beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate with a little fine carbonation. Nice malty chocolate base blends well with the mildly citric hop. Develops a stronger citric kick before the semi dry finish with more chocolate (powder this time). Decent mild.

Extra Stout from Tap East

Tap east extra stout 6.6% very deep brown. Dry malty aroma with some roast. Fruity malty flavour in mouth is pretty good but a bit of syrupy alcohol too. Like the pale ale this tastes like its pretty raw on a new kit. Which it is. Its an interesting syrupy fruity stout. Lots of fruit. Plums and cherries. 3.2

Tap East Pale Ale. Bit syrupy in the malts. Not great nick. It has some toffee some bitter citrus hops on finish. Needs a bit more integration of the ingredients. 5.6% abv. Not fantastic but its fine. Quite a malty pale ale. Ok. 2.9

Tap east brown ale. 3.4%. more copper gold to be honest. Lasting beige head. Yes quite a malty easy drinking beer with enough body and character to pull it off. Really pretty decent best tap east beer i have had. 3.6/5

Cask @ the brewpub. Pours a pale amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty hoppy citrus aroma. Fruity malty hoppy bitter grapefruit flavor. Has a fruity malty hoppy bitter grapefruit finish.

Cask @ the brewpub as Double Hard Stout. Pours a dark brown almsot black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate aroma. Roasted malty bitter chocolate flavor. Has a roasted malty bitter chocolate finish with a long bitter aftertaste.

Tap east winter warmer 4.6% i have a brown beer with thin white head. Syrupy malty aroma. Then quite a bit of hop. Peppery hop finish. Its a brown mid strength bitter. Yeast is very muted 3.0

On tap at the Brewpub. A welcome brief respite from the Christmas madness at Westfields! Hazy amber beer, residual bubbly white head. Smooth palate, semi dry with fairly low carbonation. Hops are bitter marmaladey orange, fresh tasting. A long bitter finish. Decent stuff and a good stiffener for facing the crowd again!

On tap at the Brewpub. Hazy brown beer with a residual white head. Light and smooth palate, very mild carbonation. Very mild dark malt, smooth with a trace of chocolate A little sweeter generic fruit in the mid before a seamless transition in to mild orangey hops. Finishes semi dry with a whisper of coffee and more mild hop. Interesting beer, obviously not a heavy stout but full of subtle flavours in good balance.
