Description
We're doing simple eats, craft beer, and good times in the heart of a community that loves all three. The Chicagoland area knows the name, Mickey Finn's, and most have them have enjoyed a pint or two of our most popular brew, our Amber Ale. Our 100-year-old building has served as a local landmark and a gathering place for lots of families and friend crews, year after year. And as long as we've been in business, we've been true to who we are, and we always will be.

Sampler at pub. Oh, yeah: amber colored. Light ale foam still there in the glass. Crystal malt smell with some hoppiness, too. A decent standard amber. The hops show just a little grass and pine, but also some basic noble hop bitterness.

Sampler at pub. Lighter yellow than the Belgian I started with, with a thin layer of foam. Malt smell is pretty light, but in the "refreshing" range. Taste shows a bit of orange peel and yeast (the beer menu suggests marmalade). Warming alcohol, with just the slightest note of farmhouse funk. I still haven’t pinned down how a saison "should" taste, but this one is nice.

Sampler at the pub. Darkish yellow, just a bit hazy, thin white head. Nice Belgian malt smell with a hint to fruit. Taste brings out that malt, about in the Pils range. Also a hint of bubblegum and weizen spiciness. Not too sweet, not too dry, balanced by low hopping levels. A nice beer to start off my fist visit to this place with.

FoBAB Chicago, 2007. Dense brown color. No head, but a frisky malt smell. Taste of sour fruits has kidnapped the red ale part and hidden in in a lake. But that’s okay. Just a nice sour beer character bolstered by oak and finished off by a bit of wine.

Growler courtesy of a travelling colleague. Pours a dark golden color with tiny bubbles. Medium foamy white head that stays pretty well. Thin, patchy lacing. Aroma of wheat and light malt. Light and smooth body with soft carbonation, with subtle wheat and sweet fruit flavors. Some malt as well. Nothing comes through very strong but at the same time the interplay between the airy flavors is somewhat pleasing. Not a great beer but intriguues me to try their other offerings.

Red copper ale with a thin white head. Whiskey malt in aroma with light alcohol, like a good spirit. In mouth, smooth like a scotch, with light hops, and a good malt, peaty notes. Some alcohol wrmth. A bit on the lighter side. Sampled at the Map Room, Nov. 12, 2005.

From Growler. Overwhelming banana flavor conquers anything else. Perhaps a light wheat body starts to show up toward the end. Odd ochre yellowish body.
