Description
In 1794, Dorset rope and net makers, the Gundry family, built the Old Brewery on the banks of the River Brit in Bridport. Since then, there’s been non-stop brewing on this site. In the late 19th century, two Palmers brothers – John Cleeves and Robert Henry – bought the brewery and gave it their names: JC & RH Palmer. Today, their great grandsons, John and Cleeves Palmer, work in the company. As Palmers Brewery, it remains among the best of small independent brewers.

Cask-conditioned at the Bag ONails, Bristol 14/10/08. Deep golden in colour with a slight, off-white head. Aroma of fruity malts and a hint of grassy hops. Flavour was sweet, with plenty more fruit, some caramel and a short bitter finish. Ok.

bottle @ The Royal Standard Lyme Regis, 3.2% ABV. Clear copper-golden yellow, small fizzy head. Malty nose. Light-bodied but with surprisingly much going on: malt, caramel, bitter orange and a good dry and hoppy finish. Quite nice for only 3.2%.

Cask at the GBBF 2008. Brown to copper colour. The aroma has grain and butterscotch. Fairly watery and thin mouthfeel. The flavour has some malts with caramel, and "dusty" hops in the finish.
