Handpull cask at the White Horse, Exning. Bright orange-ruby with a large beige head. Floral malty scent, with hints of rose and caramel. Extremely bitter taste counters the sweetness of the malt but it isn’t really balanced. Drinkable and it has its moments but I find even a half pint of it wearing.

500ml bottle bought at the brewery, shared with Finn. Clear amber coloured body. Remaining low head, spotty lacing. Smell of grassy hops, with some impact of malty sweetness beneath. Nuts and plums on the nose. Drying fruity ending, short lived. Satisfying (Hotel room, Exeter 29.09.2016).

Cask ale, pint shared with Finn, taproom at the brewery. Copper coloured body, dissipating pearl white head, clingy lacing. Lightly spiced aroma joined by brown malts. Firm malt-fruity taste profile of caramel, nuts, liquorice and spiced fruits. Smooth malt-fruity finish. Fits the season (Exeter 29.09.2016).

Full pint, cask at the taproom, Exeter Brewery. Crocheted lacing from a off-white head. Misty, pale amber coloured body. Aroma of leaves and dried fruits, lightly spiced. Blended taste of raisin and fruity caramel. Rounded bitter ending. Easy to drink. Clean on the swallow. Nice version of a classic Brit bitter (Exeter 29.09.2016).

Half-pint, cask ale, shared with Finn at Great Western Hotel Loco Bar. Beige head leaving lacing rings, next to clear pale golden coloured body. Restrained aroma of lemony hops. Citric hints to a pale malty flavour profile. Distant bittersweet ending. Easy going and anonymous (Exeter 27.09.2016).
