Description
In 2010, Boneyard Beer was started in an old auto shop tucked away in the backstreets of Bend, Oregon’s historical district. Without any outside investors or major bank loans, Boneyard’s inception was unconventional to say the least. After decades in the brewing industry, owner Tony Lawrence built up a “boneyard” of old equipment he collected from 13 different breweries around the country. Alongside co-founders, Clay and Melodee Storey, this second-hand brewing equipment was pieced together to brew the first batch of Boneyard Beer in May 2010. As Boneyard has grown, the initial fermenters have been replaced with shiny new ones, but the original, refurbished 20-barrel system is still the one Boneyard uses today. The current brewing system, with it’s capacity of 15,000 barrels per year, allows Boneyard to distribute draft beer in Oregon and Washington.
To date, Boneyard has brewed 17 different beers and is currently in the process of a major expansion. The new facility, approximately 15,000 sq feet, is home to the new production facility and employee offices. The new facility adds much needed capacity for Boneyard. In keeping with the theme, the 40 BBL brewhouse purchased for the new facility is second-hand. The new facility will allow Boneyard to brew upwards of 45,000 barrels per year when at max capacity.
But, as things change, the focus remains the same: balanced, hoppy beers.

16 oz. can, pours a hazy golden blonde with a small white head—about 5 months old, sadly. Nose is rather tired, with citrusy hops, some earthiness, and bready malt. Flavour is full of citrus hops, some pine, no real Riwaka character at this point, with a crisp biscuity malt. Definitely lost some vibrance at this point, unfortunately, but still good.

On tap at Loyal Legion - Portland, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma has plenty of orange rind, citrusy hops, and sticky bready caramel malt. Flavour is rich, with lots of big, sticky, resinous hops, orange marmalade, grapefruit pith, and a fat caramely bready malt base. Too thick and sticky for my tastes, but if you’re going to do this kind of IPA, it’s done well enough.

On tap at Cody's Grill, Essex Junction, VT.
Appearance: semi-bright yellow color with a finger's worth of white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: citrusy, orangey and piney hops over top of some light clean wheaty-like malts
Flavor: blends all those prior noted aromas into a bright bittersweet quality then adds some bubblegum sweetness in the finish
Texture: light bodied, very sessionable, pretty darn smooth
Overall: nicely done APWA with that bubblegum intentionally smoothing out any possible rough wheaty edges. Great idea and it worked out well and makes me ready for baseball season!

Overall: nicely done fruited pale ale that would be easy to come back to.

Can to tulip.
Appearance: yellow/copper color with a finger's worth of white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: big citrusy smooth to piney, slight oniony sweetness and grassy sweet to light apricot-like hoppiness, clean malts
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas to a nice West coast vibed IPA; finishes citrusy, grassy and malty
Texture: medium bodied, good sipper, some smoothness but also an ample amount of hop bitterness
Overall: a very nicely done West coast DIPA I would have again.

Can to tulip.
Appearance: copper color with a finger's worth of white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: orange peel, tangerine, light pine, extra citrusy hoppiness, nice clean malts
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas to a nice West coast bittersweetness with those malts making a strong presence; finishes semi-citrusy, piney and malty
Texture: medium bodied, great sipper; some smoothness but always the West coast bitterness slides in for the assertiveness I expected it to do
Overall: great West coast styled DIPA worthy of coming back to.

On tap at McGillicuddy's, Williston, VT.
Appearance: copper color with a finger's worth of white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: sweet and tart plums up front, light grassy to lemony hoppiness, subtle earthy tones further underneath
Flavor: leads with the sweetness from the plums and a light earthy to lemony semi-sweet character further under; mild finish of the plums and some lemon
Texture: medium bodied, some sessionability, light smoothness but a brisk earthy grit slides in underneath
Overall: the brewer says it's a saison but seems like it may be more of a fruited tart ale.
