Description
In 2010, Boneyard Beer was started in an old auto shop tucked away in the backstreets of Bend, Oregon’s historical district. Without any outside investors or major bank loans, Boneyard’s inception was unconventional to say the least. After decades in the brewing industry, owner Tony Lawrence built up a “boneyard” of old equipment he collected from 13 different breweries around the country. Alongside co-founders, Clay and Melodee Storey, this second-hand brewing equipment was pieced together to brew the first batch of Boneyard Beer in May 2010. As Boneyard has grown, the initial fermenters have been replaced with shiny new ones, but the original, refurbished 20-barrel system is still the one Boneyard uses today. The current brewing system, with it’s capacity of 15,000 barrels per year, allows Boneyard to distribute draft beer in Oregon and Washington.
To date, Boneyard has brewed 17 different beers and is currently in the process of a major expansion. The new facility, approximately 15,000 sq feet, is home to the new production facility and employee offices. The new facility adds much needed capacity for Boneyard. In keeping with the theme, the 40 BBL brewhouse purchased for the new facility is second-hand. The new facility will allow Boneyard to brew upwards of 45,000 barrels per year when at max capacity.
But, as things change, the focus remains the same: balanced, hoppy beers.

Poured from the tap (wooden 2018 Femur). Near black with small beige head. Quite boozy, chocolate and booze, unrefined, but decent.

Crowler from CopenRoss. Near brown pour, creamy beige head. Boozy aroma, chocolate, raisins, brown sugar, sweet, brownies. Taste is malty, chocolate before the bourbon warmth catches up, chocolate fudge. Finishes and stays warm. Creamy, smooth.

On tap at Boneyard, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is full of rich and rather brutal rum barrels, intense roasted malt and dry cocoa. Flavour is ridiculously intense, with a monstrous rum barrel presence, plenty of wood, big roasted malt character, and a little molasses. Intense, almost brutal, but it works… in small quantities. The sweetness is medium for this type of beer; plenty of sugars but it's nowhere close to cloying.

On tap at Boneyard, pours a deep dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out a nice roasted malt character, toasted nuts, and some earthiness. Flavour is very bitter, with lots of roast upfront but then the bitterness just dominates. There's not much depth beyond it. Not very well-brewed.

On tap at Boneyard, pours a cloudy pinkish peach colour with a small white head. Aroma is full of pithy raspberry, light cranberry and lacto. Flavour is not too yogurty, with tart cranberry, a hint of peach, lacto, and citrus zest. Dry, finishing gently tart, with plenty of cranberry and lacto. Decent for a kettle sour.

On tap at Boneyard, pours a hazy full golden with a small white head. Aroma is well-hopped, with citrus zest, some chalkiness and biscuity malt. Flavour is quite citrusy, with bitter grapefruit zest, some piney hops and biscuity malt. Astringently bitter finish, with a nice grapefruit character. Decent but nothing special.

10 oz. pour at Parry's off Interquest. Black, with a small, bubbly, tan head. The aroma is green coconut, light espresso, dark chocolate, anise, caraway, and brown bread. Sweet and heavily malty. Heavy body, with a syrupy, lightly biting and astringent palate. This is a fun and solid stout.

On Tap Black pour with the classic creamy light beige nitro head. Quite a bit of dark roast, cold campfire flavors. Smooth and full and a bitter bite at the end. Sharp and punchy
