Taster at Rotary GroveFest. (This beer was poured from a booth for Seldom Brewing Co., which appears to be a new secondary corporate name for Miskatonic) Excellent roasty black malts in the nose. Foamy tan head. Similar stout-y roast on the tongue, matched to a dry lager finish.

12 ounce can from Binnyβs River Grove, 9/17/22. New brewery! Brewery #2096, USA #1698, Illinois #74. Amber, slight haze. Large tan head, average retention. Aroma of melon, soap, green hops. Taste is melon, dank, pine, pale malt. Moderate bitterness. A little weird, but not bad.

17 September 2022. At Tapster Wicker, Chicago. Shared with the lovely Anke!
Clear yellow, big, frothy, white head. Aroma of pine, spruce, apple, mandarin peel, grapefruit juice, green banana. Taste has sweetish apple, pear & banana; bitter citrus peel and pine over a dry-bready malt base. Piney hoppy finish, bitter & dry, grassy & grapefruity. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Firm bitterness, good.

12oz can. Thick, sugary. Coffee aroma isnt really that pleasant. Syrupy. Cacao tone is probably the most enjoyable facet. OK, not insane with the ABV which helps. Good for the style.

16 oz can from mixed 4-pack. $10/can. This is the extent of my Mardi Gras partying. Not too bad of an idea. Started with this because I'm a bit leery of nut flavors. But this starts off under the tab with a rather nice almond smell, and possibly a note of vanilla. Pours deep black, with a brief tan head. Can't ask for much more than a honey-sweet nougat taste, and it's here. Plus a nice cocoa thread. Has a slightly syrupy mouthfeel that lets alcohol slip on through. A growing note of roasty malt halfway through. Last year I only got to some small drafts in this series. Now I get to enjoy full pints. Even if it is too late for Valentine's Day.

Bomber bottle, bought in July, kept in the fridge. Somewhat milder than I might expected from a BBA Stout. Pours a brown-black body under a foamy brown head. Smell has notes of chocolate and alcohol to it. Taste is warming, with more of a sweet stout note, bourbon and then a followup note of chocolate, dried cherry and oak. Not a knockout BBA Stout, but a great sipper and worth enjoying on the last night before we can shout to the White House pestilence: YOU'RE FIRED!

Tasty bourbon vibes but the stout itself seems a little young. Fairly light but good mouthfeel.

6-pack from Miskatonic, $9.99. Pours a bright gold color under a foamy white head. Bavarian hop nose is a little light, with a slight salty water profile. Taste has a sharp noble hop bite. Brewing water profile is lighter than the nose suggests. Note quite as light as a summer beer might be. Still my next couple of light beers between all my Black Is Beautiful stouts.
