This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a finger’s worth of white to off white foamy head. Messy lace.
The aroma starts with a big and bold robust dark and milk chocolate malt bill. Subtle sharp almost acidic coffee bean coming in underneath.
The flavor leans to the chocolate portions, nice and dry and sweet. Good level of roast. Acidity trying to poke out. Bitter roasty coffee sweet chocolatey aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a nice sipping quality about it. Carbonation seems to have dissipated altogether.
Overall, age has done this pretty well. Yes, the acidity of the coffee is starting to come out a little bit, but with the amount of chocolate malts that TG seemed to have put in, well, it helps and I think this is probably a real gem when fresh.

16 oz can. BB 01/13/17. You know, Tallgrass is starting to get pretty pricey - $13 for a 4-pack in StL. Had rouble finding singles but when I did it was $4 for a single anyway. Since I bought this in StL, without time to drink it there, I needed to pack it on my flight back to Maryland. I gave a can to a friend b/c why the heck would a RBian need a 4-pack of tallboy DIPAs. I packed 2 cans, just in case, and left a can in StL. Well, freaking Southwest baggage handlers beat the shit out of my garment bag (it was my only luggage) and I had a bag full of smelly DIPA covering my brand new (and pricey) shoes. Long story short, I pack $13 for 1 can and don’t buy expensive shoes.
Dented can pours clear golden with a thick, long lasting, mountainous head. Aroma is thick dough but not sweet or sticky maltiness with a moderate bitter hoppiness. Hops are moderately green with a bit of a dulled fruit and a faint dank. Not the tropical bomb I was expecting from the name and the label. Flavor has a lesser malt character and a more prominent bitterness that really takes away from my enjoyment. Not bright or even fruity. Not sure where the pineapple flavor is supposed to be.

Good/high clarity to the dark mahogany body. Deep auburn highlights very apparent. Tan head atop is medium-sized and shows moderate retention.
Smells like a very prototypical BA stout, with the addition of lactose fairly apparent as well, adding some tanginess and vanilla-like cream notes. A lot of oak, maybe not overdone, though pushing it....with chocolate fudge, coconut and spicy liquor-like notes. The beer aspects are, perhaps, a bit on the thin side, though it makes for a lighter overall experience, in the flavor/texture. The aroma, however, suffers as it just seems like lots of strong oak, bourbon, dark fruits, and a rather thin creamy-chocolate character. Roast is light to moderate and there is no alcohol or flaw.
In the mouth it’s got a medium body, more lactose-sticky than actually malty. Bourbon/oak character is strong. Not overdone had this been an Imperial stout, but given its lighter nature, I think there’s just a bit too much here. Chocolate, light roast, hints of fudge, coconut and vanilla are all fairly polished and even but overall it just seems too thin of a beer, with rather loose, peppery carbonation. Needs much more maltiness in the texture. Fine, though, and it’s nice to see a non-Impy version.
