Description
It all started in 1986. Sure, many things have changed since the early days of Harpoon, but much has stayed the same. We still love brewing beer and enjoying it with friends.
In July 2014, Harpoon became an employee owned company, with 48% of the company given to employees through the establishment of an ESOP. An E-what? ESOP stands for Employee Stock Ownership Plan. It is a mechanism by which a company contributes to its employees’ retirement by allocating shares to them which it repurchases…..yadda, yadda, yadda… Here’s what it means: we are employee owned, we are an independent craft brewer, and you bet we’re damn proud of it.
In 2024, Harpoon and Smuttynose merged, forming Barrel One Collective.

IPA in a bottle? WTF. From the start its like any other domestic unfresh IPA. Rude rapid racism. Radical raged rail. Rampaging rancid rank. Raping rabid rascal. Refuting regression. Regrettably reluctant. Relentlessly mouth-coating. There, you have it. BTW, its not really that hazy, either.

Can (4/19/21) pour from Greg & Jane's Beer and Wine. It's a cloudy light brown-dark yellow with nice sparkle at the edges of the glass, finger-width white foamy head with excellent retention and tons of soapy lacing. Aroma is citrus zest, pine and mild pineapple. Taste is moderately strong pineapple over citrus zest. Mouthfeel is light side of light-to-medium bodied with thin, frothy texture, average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, kind of a juicy IPA or a weak NEIPA--caught somewhere in between. Nice look, a bit thin, aroma is a bit subtle but taste is good. OK.

Didn’t plan on having another beer at the match, but things happen. A little light for my tastes, but perfectly crushable on a nice summer day, especially watching our ladies dominate Mexico!
