About
The Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg was established in 1871 by Sigmund von Willibald. The Von Willibalds owned the castle and brewery till 1917 when the premises were acquired by the Schülein family. The Schülein heirs sold the castle and brewery in 1954 to the Wittelsbach family. The König Ludwig Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg continues the 800-year tradition of brewing of the Wittelsbach dynasty. Prince Luitpold of Bavaria started in the 1970s to turn the small brewery in Kaltenberg Castle into a modern company.
The castle still houses part of the brewing installation of the König Ludwig Schlossbrauerei. 100,000 hectoliters of beer are brewed here every year. But most activities of the company are located in the large modern brewery in Fürstenfeldbruck. Since 2001 the König Ludwig Schlossbrauerei Kaltenberg has been a 50/50 joint venture with Warsteiner.

Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Pours a murky caramel brown colour with a large creamy off-white head. Aromas of bananas, cloves and caramel. Taste has very mild notes of bananas, cloves, caramel and also some notes of nuts and a little peppery spice. Light bodied, a watery texture, fair carbonation and very slightly oily mouthfeel. Quite flavourless. Not the best dunkelweizen i have tried, there are a lot better ones out there.

Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Pours a murky muddy amber/yellow colour with a huge thick creamy looking white head. Strong aromas of bananas and cloves, with hints of apples, pears and bubblegum. Taste has more bananas, cloves and some light spicy notes on the finish. Fairly light bodied with a smooth oily mouthfeel. Not my favourite but still better than average Hefeweizen i have tried. Nice and refreshing. Pretty good.

Rocky off white head left a froth on a reddish brown finely carbonated body. Malt, demerara & roasted aroma. Medium bodied, tingly on the front with a smooth creamy sticky back. Malt, syrup, brown sugar, berries & lightly spiced tastes with a peppery finish. Quaffer.

Gyllengul mot ljust bärnstensfärgad grumlig vätska. Nyslaget gräs och skumbanan i doften. Gräs blandas med en lätt syrlighet i smaken. Lite torr i smaken.

Also das ist ein eigenartiges Bier. In der Nase im Glas plädderich, in der Flasche malzig. Im Trunk erst künstlich, dann herrlich röstig, schwankt halt etwas. Die Röstaromen sind Hammer. Aus dem Fass bestimmt großartig, hier mit Abstrichen.

Clear deep amber brown, tall creamy beige head, good retention, heavy lacing. Aroma sweet malt, toasted, caramel, raisins, dates. Taste light light heavy sweet and light bitter, malty, caramel, bit sugary. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, roasty and a bit sugary sweetbitter aftertaste, some cardboard, very nice Dunkel.
