Description
Mark and Helena Dearman set up Twisted Wheel Brew Co with their daughters Laura and Charlotte in October 2019. We assembled a great team with a wealth of experience and set about brewing some of the best beer we’ve ever made.
Located at the former Windmill Brewery site in Standish, Wigan. Relocated in Winter 2020 to Westbrook, Warrington. They announced that they were closing towards the end of 2022, however, the former head brewer Anthony Barrett bought the brand in the beginning of 2023. But in March 2023 they couldn't use the facility any longer and plans had to be changed. Their beers are now cuckoo brewed, initially at Ben's Brewery Ltd but now at C'84 Brew Co.

330ml bottle from Ben's Tap. Pours very dark brown with a head that last's seconds. Aromas & tastes of coffee, red fruits, liquorice & smoked malt. Medium body. Smooth light bitter finish. Enjoyable

330ml panda from LCB. Pours a very murky/hazy caramel colour with wispy white foam. Aroma of orange zest, passionfruit, spice, pine and malts. Fruity at the start and then pine, malts and finishing with an escalating bitter acidic hop burn. Too much for me - lacks balance. Medium bodied, smooth, fine carbonation. Shame as there is the basis of a good DIPA here.

Can from lowcostbeer.com. Deep black with small tanned head, modest retention. Aroma of molasses, dark roasted malts, treacle, chocolate. Taste of liquorice, molasses, chocolate, sweet and tangy middle but dry and roasty bitterness in the finish. Tasty. Medium to full bodied, slick, fine carbonation. Good.

Can from lowcostbeer.com, consumed 6 months past BBE - quite a bit for a light pale. Semi-hazy dark orange-gold with moderate sized white foamy head. Aroma of tangerine, grapefruit and passionfruit, some caramel. Taste start more malt forward with some caramel notes and then the hoppy tangerine and tropical flavours come in. A moderate bitter finish which slightly fades taste wise. Nonetheless this is in good shape despite the age of it. Enjoyed it.

Last beer in 2024 in what is not my favourite local locally, but the beer is kept well. Slightly hazy golden with a small head. Crisp enough keg pour with just enough tropical fruitiness available in aroma and taste to please.

Can from Beer52. Cloudy gold with a small white head, minimal retention. Aroma is fruity and aromatic with passionfruit, mango, mint and soft malts coming through. Taste is quite fruity with passionfruit and citrus notes, coconut, zesty and light medicinal bitter finish with mint. Quite a bit going on for a single hop pale, I like it.
