Etxeko Bob's Beer

Microbrewery in Hasparren, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France 🇫🇷

Description
The brewery was born in 2006, located in the heart of downtown Hazpandar. Because in the purest spirit of micro-breweries, Exteko Bob’s Beer is a living space as much as a production. Around founder Bob Worboys was born a second family, the ''Bobs'', a team equally involved in the “well-being” dear to its creator. Throughout the year, the Bobs are there to show you around the brewery, organize tasting sessions, but also festive events that have brought together lovers of hops and Basque culture.

330ml bottle, bought in Pays Basque. Pours a misty blonde, proud white head. Bright nose with a comforting saison sweetness that continues to taste, bringing to mind the clean lightly spicy Saison Dupont. Expected a little more citrus hop to warrant the American farmhouse ale tag, perhaps the yeast they used had that name, but to me it tastes like a good flanders saison.

330ml bottle after completing the French Divide, opened at our rest chalet in Pays Basque. Pours deep hazed brown, large off-white head. Lovely enticing brune sweetness, a hint of demarera, with a soft dry roast finish. Would probably see it's too sweet to be a stout, more of a French brune really, but still a lovely dark ale.

330ml bottle from an Espellette pepper farm. Pours a slightly unclear amber, off-white head. Amber malts with a very subtle pepper kick, perhaps some ostensible sweetness from the pepper. Medium to light-bodied. Ok

Bottle from the Spar in Bayonne, about the only place open on a Sunday in the city centre. Golden in colour with a strong wheat styling in both aroma and taste, with some lingering bitterness to the latter.

On tap at Bar La Jean. Pours a clear amber with an off white head that lasts throughout the beer and laces slightly. Aroma has lots of bread and slightly sweet grains with a hint of leaves underlying. Flavor has earthy bread and musty grains with a bit of straw supporting.

Bottle shared thanks to Alex. Very dark brown with tan head. Chocolate, licorice, sweet malts, blackberries, light earthy and nutty. Quite sweet but also solid bitter. Almost full bodied. Pretty good.

Colour hazy medium amber, tall frothy off-white head, half-way lasting lasting, nice lacing. Aroma sweet malt, caramel, bready, overripe fruit. Taste medium sweet and light bitter, malty, caramel, light citrusy. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation, sweetbitter aftertaste, lingering maltiness and burnt sugar notes. Not a real English IPA imho because it lacks the hop orientation, more like an amber ale and in that sense a nice brew.
