Ambar oscura.

Bottle. Close to clear in the glass, dark golden in color and with a small, off-white head. The aroma is quite malty and oxidized, with some perfumed hints and grass. It’s medium to full-bodied and lightly carbonated, semi-sweet, with malty flavors. Bread, oxidized malts and grass. Some bitterness. Lasting finish. Not much IPA’ish going on here. 150524

I don’t think I’ve ever found a Monteith’s beer I liked, so imagine my surprise when I poured it into the glass and pleasant citrus and floral aromas. And then imagine my surprise when, upon tasting, it tastes as terrible as I’d first expected. Perhaps worse. Thin palate and a tinny hop flavour that leave an unpleasant aftertaste.

330ml bottle at Jolly Botanist. Pours clear pale gold, thin white head. Aromas of ginger, spicy. Taste is more ginger, light sweet note. Not getting much honey, but that’s no bad thing. Refreshing.

Malty and smooth brew. Fresh, hints of grain, smooth refreshing malt without too much sweetness. Nice, but not too deep. But refreshing!

Fresh smooth malty beginning. Hints of grain, hints of bitterness. Not too deep and fresh, but nice and round. Malty smooth, not too intense bitter. A typical Bohemian Pilsner, but not a too intense or deep.

Bottle at Masonic Arms, Kirkcudbright. Orange/brown with a bit of carbonation. Candy sugar and plastic on the aroma. Taste is sweetish, with fruity and plastic overtones. Lovely body and palette but the rest is found wanting. Not sure why someone would make this?
