Description
Reaching from The Marches in the North and South to Redwick on the flood plain of the Severn; some old farms still have their stone mills now abandoned to history. Here at Blaengawney Farm we have taken the old traditional methods of cider making from fresh cider apples and applied a new philosophy to our production, stealing a few techniques from wine makers along the way. You are just as likely to find ciders ageing in ancient oak barrels in our mill, alongside large wine fermenters made from stainless steel.

We have not yielded to the trend of adding syrups and berries to our cider. Instead we have taken a more grown up approach with care and attention that is needed to blend a fine cider worthy of acclaim from some of the most respected critics, and our ever growing following of loyal customers.

Hallets and Blaengawney are brands of the same business.

Bottle from the Bristol Cider Shop. Deep gold in colour with slight carbonation. Big apple fruit aroma with a touch of sweetness. Flavour had plenty more fruit, with a honeyed edge, touch of wood and medium finish. Good.

From a polypin at the Bristol Cider Shop 2/6/2011. Amber with slight carbonation. Gentle, apple fruit aroma with a touch of spice and honey. Very easy drinking with the cider sweet without being artificial, with plenty of slightly earthy fruit and a lingering dry finish. Can see why this was voted champion cider of Wales 2011.

Cloudy pale tan. Smells like cow patties, just like the other one from this cidery. Very fresh, cheesy, crazy nose. Tart, tannic and dry, with lots of apple. This is just silly stuff. Similar to the Heartbreaker but with more sweetness.

Cloudy dark straw. This could not smell any farmier - fresh cow shit for all. If you though you smelled stables in lambic, you’ve not smelled anything. Tastes like cheese -good farmhouse stuff. Light fruit, lots of tart. It’s like roasting mushrooms over dried cow patties, dripping disgusting stank gooey farmhouse cheese all over the mushrooms, and then eating it beside a cow.

From a polypin at the Great Welsh Beer & Cider Festival, 10/06/10. This was my last drink of the evening and my notes were sparse. Yellow coloured with slight carbonation. Easy drinking, medium perry with some juicy fruit and a touch of barnyard character. Good.
