Description
In 1890 the Companhia União Fabril Portuense das Fábricas de Cerveja e Bebidas Refrigerantes (CUFP) was founded in Porto. In 1926 Super Bock beer was introduced and received a trademark in 1927. In 1975, after the Carnation Revolution in 1974, the Portuguese brewing industry was nationalised. There followed a period of restructuring of the sector. In 1977 CUFP was transformed into Unicer - União Cervejeira E.P. The 1980s marked the change of Unicer E.P. to Unicer S.A., with the company moving from the public to the private sector. In 2017 Unicer became the Super Bock Group.

For a stout, it is a sad one, really boring, rough, malt, not really toasted, no coffee, few hop, dry, could be ok for the summer, 07.06.17, buying it at one Portuguese shop, tasting it at Prélaz.

A typical beer from Iberia, i.e. not very hoppy, made from corn, mild taste, quite carbonated, quite bearable on hot days, surpassing most average beers from large breweries.

0.75 L bottle (for 9.00 EUR in a box with a glass); opalescent dark golden to orange colour, one inch of dense ecru head, which lasts for several minutes; aroma of coconut, butterscotch, some red wine, vanilla, dried sour cherries, slight plum jam, soy sauce and maybe mild bourbon notes; taste of butterscotch, coconut, some cherry, minimal red wine and alcoholic notes; the aroma is almost percect - if the taste was at the same level, it would be a perfect beer; anyway, it is still a miracle to have this complexity in case of a strong lager!

Bottle (keg hag run out) at Algarve Deli & Cafe, Southsea. Clear gold. Thin foamy white head just sticks to the rim. Aroma is on trend - corn syrup with light bitter edge and lighter citrus. Not much going on. Flavourwise it's Light-medium bitter - grainy and vaguely hoppy - with a tartish citrus edge. Peripheral low key malts and corn syrup sweetness. Light. Thin. Soft-fizzy carbonation. OK industrial lager.

A deep red with a pinkish head. The aroma is dominated by black currant, while the flavour is sweet with strong notes of black currant, leading to a dry finish. The body is thin.
