Description
On St. Patrick’s Day 2007, Double Mountain Brewery & Taproom was unveiled to a thirsty public. Double Mountain was founded by Matt Swihart and Charlie Devereaux with a clear mission: make great beer for craft beer fans! Ours is a “brewers’ brewery”, with an uncompromising focus on beer quality. From the beginning, our goal was to make beers that we liked to drink. All of our beers are served up unfiltered and long-aged, to deliver maximum flavor and character. The beers can be very complex and assertive, but with the ultimate goal of proper balance. We aim to satisfy both the hardcore aficionados and the more casual craft beer fan, all in the same glass.

Black pour, with a big beige head. Big woody, earthy Aroma.. Loads of Bourbon, dark caramels, molasses and strong toasty, roasty, nutty malts. The body and carb are thinner than expected, mouthfeel is a touch oily. Sweet finish, with a nice sugar pie, roasted nuts finish. Excellent stuff!

Slightly hazy Copper pour, with a medium beige head. Aroma is quite pungent, strong resinous pine, citrus oil, and floral hop cones. Malts are slightly sweet, and quite bready. Finish is very bitter with a dry resinous pine bite.

On tap at The Beer Junction, pours a dirty dark brown / near-black with a small beige head. Aroma has soft cocoa, not much beyond that. Flavour is much more forceful, with plenty of cocoa upfront, dark malts, and a touch of residual sugars. Gently chocolatey finish. Quite solid.

Aroma of biscuity malt, citrus, orange, fruits, pine resin, tea leaves, mild hops. Flavour is light sweet with a medium bitter finish. I usually like my IPA a lot more fruity and less malty, but I gues the tea leaves (which I’m a sucker for) won me over.
