Description
On St. Patrick’s Day 2007, Double Mountain Brewery & Taproom was unveiled to a thirsty public. Double Mountain was founded by Matt Swihart and Charlie Devereaux with a clear mission: make great beer for craft beer fans! Ours is a “brewers’ brewery”, with an uncompromising focus on beer quality. From the beginning, our goal was to make beers that we liked to drink. All of our beers are served up unfiltered and long-aged, to deliver maximum flavor and character. The beers can be very complex and assertive, but with the ultimate goal of proper balance. We aim to satisfy both the hardcore aficionados and the more casual craft beer fan, all in the same glass.

375mL bottle, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma reveals plenty of honied stone fruits, moderate acidity, lots of oak, and light tannins. Flavour is wonderfully integrated, with big honied notes, stone fruits (though I really don’t get cherries), tons of oak, tons of tannins, pretty minor acidity really. I never had this fresh, so not sure how much this is a function of age, but damn has this aged well. Beautiful, top-notch American sour.

On tap at Double Mountain - Woodstock, pours a hazy dark copper orange with a small off-white head. Aroma reveals bright, lightly tart, quite juicy plums, with lots of buggy brett, and very gentle acidity. Flavour is mostly a function of the brett, which has eaten up everything in its path, including most of the fruit expression. There is some light, very dry peach character in the back, but this is mostly a buggy brett bomb. And I’m here for it. Very good stuff.

On tap at Double Mountain - Woodstock, pours a clear golden with a small off-white head. Aroma has soft, woody, piney hops, some grapefruit peel, and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour has bitter pinecones, dry grapefruit rind, and bone dry bready malt. Not really feeling the hop expression here – a bit dull and lacking vibrance. Okay.

On tap at Double Mountain - Woodstock, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is definitely driven by the Citra – plenty of allium dominating – with a little pine in there. Flavour comes through better, with bitter piney hops, a little allium, some grapefruit peel, and long bitter finish. Nice Citra expression. Very good.

On tap at Double Mountain - Woodstock, pours a hazy pale golden with a small white head. Aroma has plenty of allium, a touch of melony hops, and light pine. Flavour is bright and bitter, with bitter piney hops, some green melon, dankness, and allium. The Citra comes across better on the palate, and everything comes together in general, leaving a long bitter finish. Very good.
