Description
Local Option Bierwerker is the brewing division of The Local Option, a pub in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. Owner Tony Russomanno has established himself in the craft beer community through years of experience, and today he partners with six different breweries to create all of Local Option's diverse and innovative beers. Local Option Bierweker believes partnering with different breweries gives them maximum flexibility, allowing them to brew as large or as limited a batch as needed. They’ve taken up recipes long forgotten by the mainstream, such as the Kentucky Common, and perfected well-established favorites, like their steam beer Dampf Loc. Local Option Bierwerker offers a brash, in-your-face approach to craft beer; they brew with bravado and aren’t afraid of a little well-placed irreverence while still respecting the long-standing traditions that provide the foundation for their heavy metal brews.

12oz bottle share courtesy of dcschiller. It pours with a deep murky copper body that supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up molasses, caramel malts, cherries, prunes and a pleasing sherry rich fruitiness followed by some modest booze near the end of the draw. The taste is rich and yummy and it goes deep with goodness in the form of molasses and caramel malts rolling into prunes, cherries and brown sugar. I’m not sure I get any barrel in this but that doesn’t interfere with the experience one bit. This is a lovely sipper as it ends with a nectar sweet kiss amid a bit of booze. Yes!

Bottle @ benzai. Amber colour with no real head. Smells caramel, sweet, hostie. Tastes almond, sweetish, pretty nice. Medium body, soft carbo. Tastes way better than the smell.

500 ml bottle into pint glass; no bottle dating, but was a recent release. Pours hazy deep reddish copper color with a 2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, orange zest, lemon zest, caramel, wheat, bread, floral, grass, light pine, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of hop and malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, orange zest, lemon zest, caramel, wheat, bread, floral, grass, pine, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, orange/lemon zest, caramel, wheat, bread, floral, grass, pine, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and robustness of citrus hop and caramel/bready malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good hoppy wheat ale. All around good balance and robustness of citrus hop and caramel/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Draft. Woody light bourbon and chocolate malt aroma. Dark brown with moderate head and effervescence. Tart cherry, sweet bourbon, and caramel malt flavor. Mild astringent finish . Unique - nearest comparison IMHO would be a Dunkles Bock.

Amber with a small white head - coffee and wood in the aroma - taste has some coffee notes, but the most dominant flavour is of vanilla from the wood - Lingering malt and vanilla with some hint of coffee - This was interesting and quite nice
