Mourning Wood is an oak-aged coffee amber ale. Fresh American oak used during the aging process and Dark Matter’s El Salvador San Jose pulp-natural coffee aromatically drive the beer yet they remain subtle components of the beers’ overall flavor profile. This amber colored, medium-bodied, and extraordinarily well-balanced ale has a delicate taste that is appreciated by beer drinkers of all palates.

Draught from Proletariat. Reddish amber, lots of wood and vanilla and espresso notes. Nice, malty, not too heavy but serious espresso kick. Beautiful

Hazy brown coloured body with a muddy glow and a thinnish, off-white head. Aroma of toasted malt, nuts, caramelised sugars, yeast and a good deal of oaky scents. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong nutty and malty flavours with a big dose of smoke, peat, caramel and a hit of vanilla at the end as well - nice and robust with a lot of complexity near the end. Aftertaste shows some nice oaky and caramelised sugars with peat and smoke very noticeable and a good complexity throughout. Overall, a nice rich beer with a nice oaky and vanilla complexity with some peat and smoke notes as well - nice and complex with a pleasant sweetness. Good to sample and well worth trying if you can find the bottle or if you are local to Chicago! I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased at Whole Foods in Washington (Foggy Bottom, Eye Street), D.C. on 25-May-2015 for US$7,99 sampled at home in Washington on 09-May-2017.

Pint bottle, labeled Morning Wod Oak Aged Coffee Amber, not sure where it came from, maybe Vinmonopolet Vika. Noisy, foamy beige head rapidly dissipating. Hazy apricot coloured body. Poor lacing. Modest smell of caramel and herbal hops, coffee behind. Dried fruity flavours backed by coffee, semi-dry. Prolonged ending. Foamy in the mouth. Fine bodied. Something different, not bad at all (Tromsø 14.06.2015).

Willrunforbeer sharing another bottle. Hazy Amber in color, fast dying head. Aroma is a nice level of coffee upfront with a toffee and yeast hint. The coffee come off a tad stale.

I’m not going to get going on my bottle dating rant but... I fell like 4 months ago this was a good beer. Mellow caramel and toffee base with a smooth carbonation level. The coffee is old and starting to turn mildly acidic. But I will grade on a slight curve because coffee bean can fall off fast in a brew. I hope one day I can try this fresh.

bottle. Nose of caramel, vanilla, chocolate, cafe au lait, a bit of leather. Deep amber, hazy, with a fine, low head. Sweet coffee and vanilla flavor, honey. Light, with fizzy carbonation. Bit too sweet, but nice.
