Description
Local Option Bierwerker is the brewing division of The Local Option, a pub in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. Owner Tony Russomanno has established himself in the craft beer community through years of experience, and today he partners with six different breweries to create all of Local Option's diverse and innovative beers. Local Option Bierweker believes partnering with different breweries gives them maximum flexibility, allowing them to brew as large or as limited a batch as needed. They’ve taken up recipes long forgotten by the mainstream, such as the Kentucky Common, and perfected well-established favorites, like their steam beer Dampf Loc. Local Option Bierwerker offers a brash, in-your-face approach to craft beer; they brew with bravado and aren’t afraid of a little well-placed irreverence while still respecting the long-standing traditions that provide the foundation for their heavy metal brews.

Bottled. Poured dark with a beige head. Predominantly bitter chocolate, like really bitter with some yeast.

Bottled. Cloudy sediment laden pouring a dark amber Malt wheat and oak. Weird taste. Wood leaves and band aids. Eh.

Clowdy orangey brown pour from Sweetgrass in Tarrytown. Toast, malt and some caramel sweetness. Nothing special.

Draught from The Cannibal. Yellow to dark yellow pour. Spicy, tart, a bit more subdued and watery than Leipziger Gose which is my only real comparison point.

Draught from Proletariat. Reddish amber, lots of wood and vanilla and espresso notes. Nice, malty, not too heavy but serious espresso kick. Beautiful

Bottle. Dark, clear, gold in color with a medium head. Aroma is bread and grains. Taste is well balanced with a malty sweetness up front and a slightly bitter finish.

Bottle at home. Earthy aroma has bready malt, caramel, biscuit, hoppy notes, touch of stewed fruits. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied, slightly robust. Unremarkable, but easy and pleasant malty earthy wheat ale.
