Bottle thanks to Robert. Pours black. Brown head. Nose and taste of bourbon barrel, roast chocolate malt, ultra fresh coffee beans and vanilla. Body is a bit thin. Bourbon overpowers at times due to the thinness of the body. Otherwise, excellent.

Just came across some notes I wrote down a while ago on this particular beer. 12oz bottle. This one poured a cloudy yellow color with a small white, slightly foamy, head. Aroma was orange peels, coriander, spices, yeast. Flavor was light citrus, with yeast, wheat, various other spices. An okay, drinkable witbier.

22 oz bottle. Poured as close to pitch-black as possible. Head was small, dark brown, compact. Aroma was was heavy on the roasted malts, chocolate malts, notes of coffee, vanilla, and of course bourbon. This one was not too bitter, and the bourbon barrel did not overpower the brew as you can sometimes find with some barrel beers that haven’t been cellared for long. Alcohol is low enough that the entire bottle can be enjoyed without that feeling you get from extremely high alcohol stouts.

Bottle thanks to captaincougar. Pours with a thick and inky black body with a small brown head that fades relatively quickly. Glass coating. Aromas of roasted coffee beans, green, vanilla bean, espresso, caramel gelato, strong mineral/stone notes and light oak. Maybe some dark fruit and licorice. Flavors of vanilla, toasted coconut, java, coffee, vanilla creme brulee. Huge, nearly exaggerated vanilla flavors. Kahlua. Very little barrel character. Light bubbles, big body. Very velvety texture. A very solid beer overall.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of nicolascage. Black and opaque with a small off-white head. Sweet vanilla and licorice allsorts. Quite full-bodied, sweetish hard roasted malt, sweet vanilla with a very subdued bitterness. 141210

Bottled. A black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, prunes, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, prunes, and over ripe fruits, leading to a dry finish.

22 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a small, dense, creamy and tan head. Aroma is roasted dark malty and slight vanilla. Caramelish. Lingering dark malty and smooth bourbon fruity. Warming finish.

Great, slightly hazy orange coloured body with a golden honey glow and a thin, fast-dying white head and trillions of super small bubbles rising from the sides - nice! Aroma of oak, honeysuckle, hay, grass, light hops and a touch of sugar. Medium to full-bodied; Effervescent feel at first with a lot of hay and grass and herbal flavours, then fading to a strong alcohol and oak taste with a lot of light hops and a strong malt backbone. Aftertaste shows a lot of character with some drying oak and light pepper notes as well, coupled with some light coriander seed and strong alcohol warmth to finish. Overall, a very strong saison and one that has mostly good flavours, but it isn’t hard to miss them! Definitely nice to try, as I think this style should be done more, especially in Spring! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Bon Vivant Market in Smithfield, Virginia for US$6.00 on 14-October-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 21-November-2010.

Big thanks to dkachur for this! Poured black with a small dark brown head that dissipated quickly to the edges. Aroma had a nice mixture of dark grains, dark fruit, coffee and a bourbon backing. Flavor began with dark fruit and roasted malts, but a coffee note grew with a nice backing bourbon note throughout to give the beer a bit of sweetness.
