Pours dark and thick with nearly no head. Nice roasted bitterness, light malt sweetness, some chocolate, light earth in the aroma. Flavor has a nice roasted malt/coffee start. Bittersweet, lightly burnt malts, a touch of sour, and light cocoa. FInish is bitter and roasted. A bit thin in the palate. Nice porter.

Bottle thanks to Dan! poured a clear orange amber with an off-white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was full of pumpkin with a strong spice note, particularly cinnamon and brown sugar coming through. The flavor was quite sweet with a strong brown sugar overcoming the pumpkin note and backed by other spices such as cinnamon. Over spiced in my opinion.

12oz bottle-pours a rich brown head and black color that sheets the glass. Aroma is rich dark malt-coffee/roasty. Taste is rich dark malt-coffee/roasty/molasses, secondary earthy hops.

Strong aroma of dark roasted coffee, tar, and tobacco. Coal black and headless.Strong coffee flavor initially with cherry and licorice at midpalate. Smoky bark and mulberry in the finish. Alcohol is well concealed, medium bodied. Intense and flavorful without being a chore. Silky texture. I didn’t taste actual bourbon, just some of the fruity esters one might find in bourbon, which is perfect for me. Excellent!

Clear copper coloured body with a caramel and ruby glow and a non-existent head that just leaves the top oily. Aroma of very potent spice - allspice, cloves, pumpkin pie spice, anise and yes - cinnamon. Medium-bodied then closer to fuller-bodied; Strong pumpkin flavour results in a chewy mouthful after the first second. Potent caramel and roasty sweetness also noticeable and the spices hit soon afterwards with a lot of clove and cinnamon, nutmeg too. Aftertaste is potent with the pumpkin strongest, almost acting like a meal! Overall, a very strong and potent pumpkin spiced beer with a bit too much body and spice for me - almost a meal as opposed to a drink. Well crafted, just a bit too much in my opinion - there isn’t a balance here - it’s simply a LOT of ingredients. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Bon Vivant Market in Smithfield, Virginia for US$1.85 on 14-October-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 28-October-2010.

Bottle shared by obguthr at the 12th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering on 9/18/10. Thanks man! Pours a slightly hazy gold color with a large frothy head. Decent head retention and lacing. Fruity aroma with notes of pear, peach, apricot and plum. The taste is big fruity notes including plum and peach. Some caramel and a bitter hoppy finish. Medium bodied. Pretty nice.

Served on draft at the River Bend Beer Festival, Scottsville, VA, 9/17/10. Pours pitch black so that not even the sun can penetrate through. Large dark brown head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, coffee and wood. The taste is whisky, caramel, chocolate, bitter coffee, apples, cinnamon and a faintly sweet finish. Complex, well balanced, medium-full bodied. Nice beer.

Tap at Mellow Mushroom, Charlottesville. Slightly hazy amber with dusting of a head. Aroma is grapefruit and pine and a little malt. Bitter piney soap flavor that’s quite tasty. Some vanilla hints in there too.

Bomber. Nose of chocolate, caramel, light bourbon, and oak. Clear dark brown with a small beige head. Flavor is light bourbon, chcolate, and woodiness. Nice light burbony balance.

Pours thick, syrupy, dark, and nearly headless. Rich malty aroma with cocoa, dark fruits, molasses, light vanilla, some burnt malt, and a hot whiskey note. Body is as full as it gets. Super smooth, too. Flavor does not disappoint. Dark fruit, roasty malt, chocolate, light burnt malt, molasses, a touch of smoke, vanilla, wood, and a fine, lingering, bourbon finish. Quite a porter. Strong porter is an odd style to me but I wouldn’t label it a imperial stout either. Whatever it’s called- it’s mighty fine.
