Courtesy of ksurkin Pours amber with off white head. The aroma is big with pine hops, tree sap, sweet musty crusty malts, prunes, raisins and plums. The taste is similar with big brash pummeling hops that pack punches from pine, resiny goodness and some grassiness. Behind the assertive load of hops are sweet malts that have fused with the resiny pine bitterness to create a pleasing flavor. I get loads and loads of hops balanced by slick yet deep sludgy sweet malts. It ends with lingering pine hop flavor and robust hop bitterness. Love this!

Bottle. Poured black, opaque around the edges, with a thin brown head that dissipated to a thin film around the edges. Aroma had sweet roasted malts with undertones of vanilla and bourbon. Flavor began with strong roasted malts and the flavor becomes sweeter with notes of bourbon and vanilla.

12 oz bottle. Beer pours a dark, rich red color with a very small head. Aroma is malty, with notes of yeast. Flavor is malty, with touches of bread and yeast. Another flavor I can’t quite place. Okay, but certainly not the best I’ve had from them.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a fast-dying tan head. Aroma of alcohol, pit fruits, roasted malt, coffee, oak, vanilla and some nice bourbon! Full-bodied; Deep strong pungent flavours of malt and oak are very noticeable with a good toffee and caramel sweetness that almost dominates the beer. Aftertaste shows some dry oak flavours, bourbon, alcohol and a very solid complexity. Overall, a very nice and special beer - showing all of the intricacies of the style with a good character and quite a bit of complexity. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, DC on 13-May-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 25-May-2010. Bottle #1047 from the 2010 batch.

Clear copper with a nice head. Full aroma of citrus and earthy hops with some biscuit malts, too. Flavor has a sharp lemony bite to it that fades into some light floral and citrus hops. A layer of malt really stands this one up. A real solid IPA.

This brew pours a mostly clear dark amber-brown color with a medium thin light beige head that dissipates to an outer ring. Top ring of lacing with spots underneath. Chocolate malt aroma with notes of hops in the background. Medium, smooth body with flavors of roasted malt, chocolate and hops. The finish is sweet chocolate and caramel with a short malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

bottle thanks to dkachur, pours black with a medium tan head. Strong roasted barley and coffee aroma. Flavor is rich chocolate malt and strong coffee coming forward and lingering for a while with light pepper notes in the finish. Delicious.

Bottle, $1.60 at Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours dark brown, almost black with a small dark brown head. Aroma of bitter coffee. Taste is chocolate, coffee, and a light fruit.

Appearance: Dark ruby red color with a wispy beige head, light lace
Flavor: Flavor of brown sugar and caramel/toffee malts, light orange hop
Palate: Medium-full bodied beer with a mild-medium alcohol burn
Overall Impression: I feel like this one had just the right amount of age on it. It has a slight alcohol burn, but it doesn't overwhelm the beer. The flavor is much like the nose, but feel slightly more burnt, and slightly less fruity. The dryness and alcohol come out mostly in the finish of the beer. The brown sugar is definitely strong in this one. A pretty solid Barley Wine.
