Notes from March 2009 Initially purchased & consumed in December. Worked on a couple extras sixers throughout the winter. BB notch of March. First fresh examples of this beer I've ever had in a bottle. Wow. Ommegang anniversary glass. Light tan lathered head, sticky/scummy lace over a filtered rich dark bourbon amber. Smell is predominately toasted grains & caramel(lots), spiced sharply with pine & orange rind. Caramel to the point of being honey-ish. Alcohol is quite noticeable for 7%. Taste is mainly honey, toasted/burnt grains, & husks upfront, with juicy grassy & floral hops making their way in. Some tangerine rind. Not monstrously bitter at all, but very much the pronounced taste of unripened(green) fruit. A big detractor is that the alcohol is all there. Carbonation is lower then I'd like, body is a bit grainy & slick as well. It finishes dry though, with a hint of remaining bitterness. Great one at a time, & as a decent substitution for when Nugget Nectar isn't in season.

Notes from July 2009 Growler from New Beer. Ommegang anniversary glass. A cascade of brass finally settles with a couple dollops of eggshell head over a deep gold, slightly hazed body. Decanting not being my best skill, I drop more sediment into the bottle then I should of. Today's color is now peach. :P The smell could use some work. Dusty & grassy, with some orange rind, lemon & Witbier strength alcohol & wheat. Initial nectarine tartness. Fading, it gives into rindy grapefruit & bittergreens. Finish is bready & yeasty, maybe a touch peppery. Grassy peach, & big on yeast now that I fumbled on the pour. As is warms it turns into more of a soapy whit, a style that has never grown much on me. Carbonation is alright. I sense a little menthol after a few pours. Dustier then I would of liked. Not too much trouble on the growler. By the glass, I could see coming back for another after running through a sampler. Slightly better in the bottle, but what's left are old bottles...
