Description
Fat Head's was founded in 1992 as a premiere craft beer tap house and restaurant in Pittsburgh, PA. In 2009 we expanded to Ohio and teamed up with our award-winning Head Brewmaster Matt Cole. With the explosion in popularity came the necessity to open a full-scale production brewery in 2012. Fat Head's Brewery produces original ales and lagers for distribution throughout Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.

Our Tap House offers Samples, Flights, and Fresh-brewed Pints! Sit right in the heart of our facility and enjoy the freshest beer from our tanks to your pint glass. We have a 16 tap draft system, bar seating, picnic tables, and some seriously tasty grub to go with it.

Crisp light copper and orange coloured body with a very thin, single centimetre tall pure white head. Aroma of grass, grapefruit, flowers, bittering hops, a good deal of malt and a touch of dry biscuity grain with a little sweetness from citrus fruits on the finish. Medium-bodied; Strong bitter flavour from all the hops up front with a lot of citrus fruits, grapefruit, floral and slightly grassy notes throughout, but a little dose of sweetness and malt showing through, but the hops are by far the strongest here. Aftertaste shows the deeply bittered hops with a good malt backbone and balance with a grassy and dry finish and a dash of floral aspects as well. Overall, a nice and well-structured and exceptionally well-balanced IPA that shows the malt well, a touch of sweetness and plenty of bitter hops, just like the IPAs of old. I sampled this stubby, twelve ounce bottle purchased from Wegman's in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on 26-May-2019 for US$1,99 sampled at my house in Washington on 06-June-2019.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/2/2019. Pours slightly hazy medium golden amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, onion, peppercorn, pine, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, onion, peppercorn, pine, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel.rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, onion, peppercorn, pine, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, sticky/resinous/rindy, and fairy crisp balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 6.5%. Overall this is a fantastic IPA. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp to drink, with the moderately bitter/resinous/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Amazing Warrior, Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic profile. Extremely juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy hop complexity; with a great balancing clean pale malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp resin dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding West Coast style example as expected.
