Description
Olympia’s story begins with founder Leopold Schmidt, born in Germany in 1846. As an adult Leopold was an adventurer with the blind ambition of sailing the high seas, exploring the American Frontier, and mastering the art of German brewing. After training as a brewmaster in his homeland, the wild beauty of a new world was beckoning – Leopold set his sights on America. In 1895 he arrived in the Northwest and the following year founded Capital Brewing Company, which would become the famous Olympia Brewing Company.

Admin Note: Olympia was purchased by Pabst in 1999. The Olympia Brewing Company was a brewery in the northwest United States, located in Tumwater, Washington, near Olympia. The Tumwater brewery was closed in 2003.

Can poured into a shaker. Pours a clear, pale gold with less than a half finger of white head. Aroma of corn and grains with a hint of some oddly dank malt. Taste is very lightly bitter. Grains with a bit of earthy hops. Full bodied with a surprisingly creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a much longer than expected finish. Overall, not too shabby. Nothing to seek out but I’ll drink what I have.

12 cans from Dans. I drank it out of the cans so ive no idea what it looks like. Smells of corn and sweet honey. Tastes of water, corn, light metallic garbage, pretty smooth. Very ok. Not good certainly but not horrific.

12 oz can. Best by Jan 2, 2012. These things are usually so full of preservatives, I don’t think two months out of date will matter (I hope). "95% Malt." Well, that’s promising. I’m not sure what the percentage of adjuncts in other macro beers are, but I imagine it’s more (?). Smells corny no matter what the label says. Pours clear old gold with a thick white pillowy head with nice retention. After it finally collapses it leaves a blanket and some nice lacework. Pours better than any macro I’ve ever seen. I actually taste some hops here; they impart some grassy notes. Almost tastes like a Helles (!!!). I’m not kidding. It’s lightly sweet with a faintly dry bitter finish. The body is paper thin and watery. "It’s the Water," right? Despite aroma and palate flaws, this is still probably the best macro I’ve ever had. Obviously it’s no masterpiece, but it’ll serve around the poker table or up camping/fishing, somewhere where thought is a minimal requirement.

Can at Anthem. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of musty sweet grains with corn and a slight skunky note. Flavor has a good amount of sweet grain with a growing corn note.

Tin from neighbour. Shudder shudder shudder. Weak aroma, flavour and finish. It’s water, or rather it’s in the water. Looks rather like urine, fortunately tastes rather like a near beer. Pas Op.

12 oz can from Brewdad; Nose of grain and slight grassy hops; clear gold with a big white head; flavor slightly sweet with a liitle banana ester in the background and a tiny bitter finish. Better than a lot of pale lagers.
