On draft at the new Pizzeria Paradiso, thank you Jeff. Medium brown color with tan head. Aroma of caramel and malt. Taste of chocolate and caramel, more malt than hops, but with a decent bitter edge.

12 oz bottle - poured a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, caramel, nuts and chocolate. Flavor is a nice, smooth roasted malt and caramel flavor - with a strong character of chocolate. Not bad at all.

June ’09....Ruddy brown..just a skimming of foam....nothin’ but malts...strong malts on the nose...Frank smells a burnt pound cake...I only smell the sweetness of it....deep full and pungent with hop undertones...thick syrupy cereal sweet...alcohol abundant...bitter sweet vanilla--not too shabby...its simple and a little cakey tasting...light lacing--just dandy, but I could use more dimension in this bottle

Found old notes from Northern Virginia Summer BrewFest. On Tap. Pours a black color with a small dark tan head. Aromas are sweet malts, touch of caramel, cream. Flavor is pretty smooth, with a nice creamy body and a sweet malt flavor. Not too bitter, nicely balanced.

Fudge and big chocolate with some mild roasted malts/smoked wood in the finish.

Bottle. A ruby-brown, almost clear beer with a small beige head on top. Malty and sweetish nose, with nice hops, alcohol and caramel. Alcohol, beef-stock, dried fruits, sherry, some hops and phenols, caramel and dried fruits in the flavor. Warming, full-bodied and well carbonated. The finish has dried fruits, hops, alcohol and some roasted malt. A really lovely, warming and full-bodied winter beer, maybe a bit on the sweet side, but really nice. (090522)

Location: I thought I'd had this one before, but this rating is from a friend's 12 oz bottle at the Brickskeller, 7/31/09

Overall Impression: A nice beer with a big porter flavor. Filled with nice coffee, chocolate, spice, and roasted flavors.
