Bottle 3327 shared by dcschiller, thanks Dave. It pours clear deep brilliant copper with tan head. The aroma is big smooth sweet vanilla bourbon notes with faint “beer” somewhere there in the middle of it all. A few more pulls seems to bring up a sense of fruity esters as well. The taste is oh so smooth and nicely sweet with bourbon and a nectar like goodness as well as a mild level of spicy hoppiness. This is way too smooth and lacks any of the expected booze induced heat in either the taste or aroma for a big ABV barrel aged beer. But the beer notes are pretty well hidden though.

Damn if I can remember where this came from. Capped 750. Pours dark ruddy copper with a 3 finger creamy beige head. Aroma is heavy bourbon/vanilla with a spicy herb aspect that must be cardamom. Then there’s a large amount of sweet heavy malt aroma. All in all the very aroma is intoxicating. Full bodied. Starts with sweet thick brown sugar, followed by bourbon/vanilla, and then some definite spicy/gingery thing. I think they put in a lot of cardamom. Ok, this stuff is more sweet than dry - it’s approaching sticky. But all the other stuff renders that balanced. For me, anyway. I hope they didn’t lose the recipe. This is a unique standout ale. Why it’s English-style? Gotta find me some English barley wines!

I was not crazy about this one. Aroma has oak and heavily roasted grain, with lots of coffee. Flavor is mostly cold coffee with very light spice. A thick beer, with low carbonation. Very intense coffee all around, and a dry finish. My issue is a cold coffee flavor that overwhelms everything else.

Hanger Room Firkin Fest, October 2011. I have not had the standard Commander aged in bourbon casks, but because beer and bourbon are a terrible combination, I suspect I would like the regular commander much less. This beer has a sweet aroma with caramel and nuts. More caramel in the flavor, with sugar, and a milt alcohol burn. Very low carbonation. Its solid.

Hanger Room Firkin Fest, October 2011. Black of course. With a rich palate & a heavy, oily beer. I pick up a little smoke, as well as chocolate and coffee, with the flavor having more coffee and a grain character. I do not perceive anything else, so, I can’t tell the oyster is there, but it is a good stout anyway.

Bottle via a trade with tytoanderso. Bottle 1302 from 2011. Thanks Tyler! Pours with a clear copper hued body with a large, fluffy off-white head. Good lace. Aromas are of sarsaparilla, oak, maple, cardamom (not so subtle), brown sugar, alcohol, cola, vanilla and gingerbread cookies. Flavors are of cardamom, barrel, gingerbread, vanillin, spicy, maple, fenugreek, brown sugar. Sweet, bready, malty. Well hidden alcohol. Creamy carbonation, big bodied and mildly warming. Great!

Sampled at the DC Local Tasting a 750ml bottle has a big, spicy aroma, carraway seeds, spearmint, pine, light smoke. Flavor is minty, pine, malty, oranges, carraway seeds. Full bodied, herbal finish.

It was very dark in Moto I when I tried this, but it appeared to be an orange colored beer, somewhat hazy but not opaque. Light pine and herbal notes in the aroma. Flavor has more intense hop character than the aroma, but it is also very smooth, with good hop flavor but no hop burn. Not very sweet, which was nice. A solid session pale ale.

Sampled on draft at GTMW 2011. Pours a hazy orange with a large offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of bitter hops, bread, earthy and sweer sugary notes. The taste is tart fruity notes, bready and faint spices. Medium bodied.
