Description
In August of 2005, the first jack hammer went into the ground in the empty warehouse in Pleasantville, New York, that was to become the living dream of our founder Scott Vaccaro. We brewed our first batch of beer in December of 2005. In December of 2011 we moved to Elmsford, finished construction of our new brewery, brewed our first batch of beer, and slowly shut down our old location. In 2014 we decided that it was time, after 9 years of making sour and wild ales, to take it to the next level by opening our new sour ale production wing, lovingly dubbed the “Fermento Funk Facility”.

Bottle from Systembolaget. One of those IPAs you are happy comes along after a few other beers. Nice haziness with a light ending.

16oz. can from Total Wine and More, St Petersburg. Dark brown and a little bit soupy with a beige/khaki head. Chocolate, oak, some cinnamon on the nose. Sweet warming taste with light notes of blackberry, turning quickly to bitterness all the way to the long finish. Full oily body, carbonation on the light side. Pretty good. And my 7000th rate!

I almost wanted to enter this as an Imperial Brown in the style listing instead of flavored, because the flavoring elements here are really really under-stated. If you didn't tell me, I'd just think it was a brown ale. Pours from the can a very hazy murky brown, modest tan head. Nose is light caramel, just a touch nutty. Flavor presents as fairly dry, with grainy and nutty flavors. For sure this is a perfectly fine strong brown ale. I don't know to be disappointed or not - I probably would complain about blackberry pie in beer form. But then I was kinda hoping to get something more than just a brown ale when picking this out.
