Description
In August of 2005, the first jack hammer went into the ground in the empty warehouse in Pleasantville, New York, that was to become the living dream of our founder Scott Vaccaro. We brewed our first batch of beer in December of 2005. In December of 2011 we moved to Elmsford, finished construction of our new brewery, brewed our first batch of beer, and slowly shut down our old location. In 2014 we decided that it was time, after 9 years of making sour and wild ales, to take it to the next level by opening our new sour ale production wing, lovingly dubbed the “Fermento Funk Facility”.

I almost wanted to enter this as an Imperial Brown in the style listing instead of flavored, because the flavoring elements here are really really under-stated. If you didn't tell me, I'd just think it was a brown ale. Pours from the can a very hazy murky brown, modest tan head. Nose is light caramel, just a touch nutty. Flavor presents as fairly dry, with grainy and nutty flavors. For sure this is a perfectly fine strong brown ale. I don't know to be disappointed or not - I probably would complain about blackberry pie in beer form. But then I was kinda hoping to get something more than just a brown ale when picking this out.

Deep dark red and amber coloured body with a thick-ish, three centimetre tall off-white head that stays afloat nicely. Aroma of soured, tart, bretty and especially spontaneously fermented notes with a lot of funk in the yeast with some malts here and a dash of light fruit noted, but probably not included in this one. Medium-bodied; Strong yeastie and very tart notes at first with a more oaky and cedar, woodsie notes that show pretty strong throughout with a kick of tart and noticeable fruits with even a noticeable sourness at the end - very nice and complex as well. Aftertaste shows some strong yeastie notes with a lot of tart, grassy and herbal notes with the woodsie qualities as well, with some fruits noticeable as well. Overall, this is much more 'robust' and deep with the woodsie and cedar, oaky notes than the Green bottle (sampled in conjunction), but this was deeper and provided a bit more malt and stronger characteristics. Nice to sample horizontally with the Green bottle, and while that one was 'better' to me, this was still nice to try! I sampled this 37,5 cL corked and caged bottle, purchased from Glen Ro Spirit Shoppe in Monroe, Connecticut on 19-December-2021 for US$9,99 (with a buy one get one, free!) sampled Horizontally with the Captain Lawrence Green Barrel Select beer on 30-October-2022 a few minutes after finishing the USMC Marathon with my wife - Congratulations to her.

Notater fra a/s Nor-Horns generalforsamling i Halden jan-23. En 0,33 flaske fra den innledende harryturen til Strömstad: klar kobbergylden med fint skum som varer helt ned. Karameller, furunål, appelsinmarmelade og søt citrus med balansert fylde og tydelig mersmak.

An interesting premise for a tripel by aging it in apple brandy barrels. No problem here, I appreciate tripels of all stripes. My 16 oz can was canned on 9/30/22 and came to me by way of Halftime. I have a Belgian-style glass from Delerium prepared to receive the pour. A hazy, yellow going into gold liquid with a frothy head of completely white foam that quickly dissipates. The nose is faintly green apples with yellow fruit and grain. I lift the glass and sip. It initially strikes me as a tripel cocktail. Nectarines, apricots, a boozy-brandy effect, oak, honey and white bread. Nice and thick for a mouthfeel. A quite enjoyable take on a tripel. Well done.

Canned@Rex, Umeå. Orangeish golden colour with a small off-white foamy head. Aroma is fruity, floral, some mild lemongrass, nectar and mild malts to it. Flavour pretty much has the same elements in a very nice balance. Smooth and pleasant, with a high refreshing kick to it.

Draught@Bishops Arms Hornsgatan, Stockholm. Hazy orangeish golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is zest, mango, some toffee and mild grassy notes. Flavour is very sweet floral and fruity hops along with some nectar, mango and mild toffeeish notes. Still has a nice earthy/grassy kind of lurking bitterness to it.

Bottled. Hazy goldeny orange colour with a mediumsized creamy longlasting white head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is fruity, some mild alcohol, spices, yeast and mild funk with some wooden notes. Flavour is also having the same elements in a rather nice balance. Pleasant, and actually for once a rather true to the style old school triple. Yum!
