330ml bottle at home. Very dark brown, near black pour. No head initially, but a small creamy one appears (a good sign as far as I’m concerned in strong bottle-conditioned beers). Aromas of chocolate cake, plums, booze, almonds. Tastes very cakey, like christmas pudding. Woody too. Rich, sticky texture. Flat carbonation. Long sweet finish.

Cask at Gunton Arms, North Norfolk. Clear copper colour. Halo of white head. Sweet caramel, some fruit, hint of spice. Taste is sweet, then dry, with a little spice. Overly sweet palate. A bit clacky.

Cask at a million pubs in Norfolk. It doesn’t matter what this beer is like. The big draw is the fact you can have a gallon for lunch, and still be ok to drive, operate machinery, work a train, or carry out minor surgery. Fact.

cask@Williamson’s Tavern, London - amber pour with medium white head. Aroma and taste is malty, light hoppy, grainy, some floral and herbal notes, pretty refreshing bitter, not bad.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol, October 2013. Deep gold with a slight white head. Citrus fruits, slightly earthy malts and a decent, bitter finish. Good.

Cask at The Ale House, Colchester. Poured a clear dark brown with a red hue and a frothy white, long-lasting head. The aroma is weak roasted malt. The flavour is medium to weak bitter with a thin watery weak liqourice hop bitter palate. Light bodied with flat carbonation. It’s a little weak all round to be honest. Needs more defining attributes.

Cask at The Ale House, Colchester. Poured a crystal clear medium amber with a bubbly white head. The aroma is weak malt and hops. The flavour is medium bitter with a malt, hop bitter slightly watery palate. Light bodied with flat carbonation. Fine for a session.

Cask at The Playhouse, Colchester. Poured a clear medium amber with a thin slightly broken head and lots of broken lace. The aroma is weak malt, The flavour is medium to weak bitter with a smooth malt hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with flat carbonation. Nothing special bit not bad either.

Cask @ Crown River, JDW, Heathrow TW6. Pours a golden color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty weak citrus aroma. Fruity malty citrus hoppy flavor. Has a fruity malty citrus hoppy finish.

Bottle from the M&S at Waterloo station near platforms 16-19 to be fucking specific, drank on the train home from a paper cup and labelled as M&S Norfolk Bitter as you’d expect, cheers to JF 12/11/13. Chestnur brown with a moderate beige head. Nose is toffee, dark fruit, cake mix, prunes, brown sugar. Taste comprises dark malt, sweet brown bread dough, dates, toffee. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry finale with sweet and bitter tones. Decent enough bitter.
