Description
It seems simple.

Water. Yeast. Grains. Hops. That’s all it takes to make beer. But what we do with those simple ingredients within these walls is what makes us special.

Foothills began brewing beer at our West 4th Street location in March 2005, with three 15-barrel fermenters. Jamie and his brewers managed to crank out 800 barrels of beer that year, and doubled that output the following year.

As demand and production continued to increase, the need became obvious for more space. The solution came in the form of a 48,000 square foot warehouse a few miles away, an old manila envelope factory that was retro-fitted with brewing equipment and became Foothills’ main production facility, located at 3800 Kimwell Drive.

Today both brewery locations continue to produce our top-quality beers. We offer weekend tours from our tasting room at our main brewing facility. Conversely, if you ask nicely at the downtown brewpub, you can probably get a peek at the operation.

Bottle @ New Years Eve. Thanks to SecretSanta. Pours black with a creamy head and lacings. Dark chocolate, coffee roast, dark fruit and a bit of ashes. Very harmonic, simple, tasty and well made. Smooth and filling. YES!

2011 vintage bottle shared by badnewsbeers. Deep opaque brown-black body, thin light brown clumping head. Nose primarily of bourbon and oak, warming, with molasses, toast, and burnt sugars. Bourbon body with big vanilla and coconut and hot, tannic oak backed by burnt sugars. Medium-bodied, oily, and rather dry. Some tobacco leaf in the finish. Soft and very good.

On tap. Pours with a clearish brown hued body with a tan head. Aromas of bourbon, malty, lightly spicy and a bit biscuity. Bourbon aromas are smooth and elegant. Flavors are of bourbon, marzipan, molasses, vanilla, a bit earthy and nutty. A bit thin with medium to slightly lively bubbles. Tasty. No hops left.

Samples from the 2009 and 2010 bottles with the Madison crew. Deep opaque black-brown, rusty beige head. World Class. Big cocoa nib taste. Lacy head. 2010 is way more smoky. Amost astringent coffee cocoa nib bitterness. Wow. Great beer. Nice.

Received in trade from VncentLIFE, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a crystal clear deep golden color with a decent white head that shows moderate retention with a fair amount of sticky lace. Smells of pine and bread with hints of citrus. Smells like an IPA should clean with a bit of dankiness. Taste is a mix of bread and caramel malt offset with some pine and citrus to remind you there are some hops in this one. Medium body with a dry finish, moderate level of carbonation with a slick resinous mouthfeel. Decent IPA, I really enjoyed it, but seems a bit on the mild side of "India" Clean flavorful brew.

Draft. Dark maroon color. Aroma of Starbucks grounds, rasisins, dates. Taste has bourbon, vanilla, coffee grounds, port wine, prunes. Medium body. Finally, a porter that is really a porter, and not a stout!

Draft. Very nice fruity citrus aroma. Taste is not overly bitter, and has decent enough malt balance. Nice.
