GABF 2011 - a medium dry, roasty, moderately espresso-ish imperial stout - medium black malt bitterness - the cocoa brings a slighty astringent bitterness - espresso character is a bit burnt in nature - finish of char and lingering bitterness - pretty dang overrated.

Denver Rare Beer Tasting. Deep black appearance with a creamy, dark brown head. Roasty malts, dark milk chocolate, creamy aroma. Liquified dark malts, roasty, slightly burnt dark malty flavor.

Bottle thanks to ygtbsm94: Opened to a foamy spurting chocolate shavings head, poured a deep black. Aroma was grassy hops and chocolate. Taste is burnt chocolate and coffee, some fruit and burning alcohol in back of mouth/throat.

On tap at the Thirsty Monk in Asheville the night prior to Brewgrass. They had a vertical of 2009 - 2011 versions my cousin got the last glass of 09 and me of 2010. Pours jet black and nose of deep chocolate and espresso. Taste is of chocolate goodness, toffee, coffee, dark fruits, earth, slight chalk, and some sprucey hops. Not ideal drink to start with but got to drink it while it lasts. really good

Bottled. A black beer with a brown shine under a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of alcohol and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocolate, roasted malt, and alcohol, that bites the tongue.

A deep dark stout with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark fruits, licorice, bourbon, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, a nice chocolate malt with dark fruits, licorice, alcohol warmth, light bourbon barrel notes, woody notes, very nice for a 10 year old beer

A deep dark porter with a thin brown head. In aroma, a pungent bourbon barrel, wood coming out nicely, wood extract, cork, in your face. In mouth, a tobacco laden chocolate, with molasses, metallic hops, wood extract, a bit too much for me, but a nice challenge. On tap at the brewpub, August 13, 2011.

A lightly hzed amber DIPA with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, loads of citrusy hops, over caramel malt, very subdued, a bit too much. In mouth, a hop wallop attack of citrusy and resinous hops, white grapefruit, biscuitty malt, intense and challenging DIPA. On tap at the brewpub, August 13, 2011.

A translucent amber ale with a thin white head. In aroma, butterscotch malt with faint British hops. In mouth, a nice honey laden malt, lingering over smooth Cascade hops, a bit light but good. On tap at the brewpub, August 13, 2011.
