Description
De Halve Maan Brewing Company is a family brewery in the heart of Bruges, Belgium. The brewery was restarted and refined by Veronique Maes in 2005. With unique beer recipe on the work, the brewery was renamed as ‘Brugse Zot’. Brugse Zot beer became the only beer that is personally brewed in the town center of Bruges. The Brugse Zot and Straffe Hendrik beers are two of the brewery’s finest types of beers. Straffe Hendrik beer is filled with bitter ale while the Brugse Zot is rich in fruity flavor along with different types of malts and hoppy aromas.

Bottle. OK, this may not be as good as some trappist beers, but for the most part it wasn’t bad. Needs to be tried at least once.

Bottle. 2014 version. Cloudy gold with a medium head. Aroma of funky, basement fruit. Taste is an acetic type sourness. Just average.

Bottle at home. Pours deep copper with huge, everlasting white head. Nose is super funky, sour and has that classic Belgian character: yeasty, fruity and floral. Taste is surprisingly bitter, and quite dry. There’s some funk, horseblanket and a faint touch of sweet booze in there too. Closes with long, dry and bitter finish, has medium body and lively, almost too much carbonation. Intersting beer, I dig it.

750ml shared bottle @ Grain, Zurich. Slightly unclear, deep brown body with a big, fluffy beige head. Wonderful aroma, caramel malt, bread, toast, dry fruit, wood, toffee and spicy yeast. Flavor goes in the same direction as the aroma, quite sweet malty and ripe but so balanced that it doesn't feel sticky sweet at all, super smooth, rich and with warming alcohol. Fine body and long lasting aftertaste. Delicious and actually dangeriously easy drinkable.
