Description
De Halve Maan Brewing Company is a family brewery in the heart of Bruges, Belgium. The brewery was restarted and refined by Veronique Maes in 2005. With unique beer recipe on the work, the brewery was renamed as ‘Brugse Zot’. Brugse Zot beer became the only beer that is personally brewed in the town center of Bruges. The Brugse Zot and Straffe Hendrik beers are two of the brewery’s finest types of beers. Straffe Hendrik beer is filled with bitter ale while the Brugse Zot is rich in fruity flavor along with different types of malts and hoppy aromas.

Bottle. A clear, copper beer with a small beige head. Dried fruits, some alcohol, caramel, hints of spices and celler in the aroma. The flavor is sweet, with dried fruts, caramel and cellar. Some spiced notes too. Full-bodied and sweetish in the mouth. The finish has a nice blend of caramel and bitterness, as well as some metal. A quite pleasant one. 090619

Pour is a cloudy orange with a small fizzy white head. Aroma is fruity and yeasty with some notes of corriander. Flavor is fruity, spicy and candi sugar. The low alcohol makes this a solid Belgian beer for sipping.

Bottle, 33cl. It pours a hazy, golden body with lots of yeast chunks, and a finger-thick off-white head. Fruity, citrusy nose with hints of wheat malt and some spicyness. Citrusy flavor, mostly orange, with coriander as well. Soapy, slightly sourish mouthfeel, medium full. Fruity finish. Sure, it’s drinkable and decent, but it’s slightly unappetizing and a bit challenging to drink. A small glass is enough. (090522)

33 cl bottle that was brought back from Belgium for me from alagnak. Pour is a slightly hazed golden with a smallish off white head that left nice streaky lacing. Aroma is softly floral, straw grass, some sweet grape and raisin notes. The yeast is present at the back of the note, and is also sweet and spicy. Taste is really soft, very balanced between the sweet hay straw notes and the spicier yeast notes. The finish is slightly bitter, and lingers some with the sweetness. Palate is medium and coats the mouth decently. Finish is dry and crisp. Overall, nicely balanced Tripel that stood out among many I have tried recently. As with most Tripels I have had, got a bit sweet for my taste, but that should come as no surprise. Thanks Chris for bringing this one back for me, it was special.
