Description
De Halve Maan Brewing Company is a family brewery in the heart of Bruges, Belgium. The brewery was restarted and refined by Veronique Maes in 2005. With unique beer recipe on the work, the brewery was renamed as ‘Brugse Zot’. Brugse Zot beer became the only beer that is personally brewed in the town center of Bruges. The Brugse Zot and Straffe Hendrik beers are two of the brewery’s finest types of beers. Straffe Hendrik beer is filled with bitter ale while the Brugse Zot is rich in fruity flavor along with different types of malts and hoppy aromas.

(33cl bottle) Hazy, golden colour with a thick, slightly off-white foamy head. Sweet cara-malty aroma with fruity (apricots, citrus) accents and a flowery, slightly grassy hoppy note. Sweet-bitter flavour, full bodied with a slightly sharp carbonation. Cara-malty, slightly bready and moderately fruity taste; subtle fruity and bitter hoppy finish with notes of alcohol. Decent Tripel (31.V.09).

bottle at De Halve Maan - Pours clear yellow orange with a moderately thick head that laces well. It smells of citrus, bananas, and malt. The is sweet malt up front that goes quickly to ample hops and a dry finish. I quite enjoyed it.

750 mml corked and caged bottle:
Appearance: Pours orange with a mid sized head. Loads of sediment
Aroma: Modest aroma of winter apples and marzipan.
Flavour: Modest fruitiness; pears and bananas.
Palate: Dry and yeasty, somewhat thin with a slight alcohol burn.
Overall: No surprises here; a typical Belgian Blond Ale.

bottle, pours light brown, tall tan head. Light alcohol and honey sickle nose. Wow, complete shock and suprise. This is so good. Amazing carmel malt and fig turning into a light spice and yeasty finish. Lingers for a while with a light alcohol and some cinnamon heat. Moderately carbonated with a medium mouthfeel. Nice!

330 ml bottle. Slightly hazy golden body with a small white head. Aroma is light fruity and spicy. The flavor is light, refreshing malty with a spicy and fruity touch. Medium body and rather short finish. Drinkable but a bit anonymous and ordinary for my liking.

Bottle at Delirium. Dark brown color with tan head. Dark fruity aroma. Med. body with smooth carbonation. Malty, but not overly sweet. Not a huge amount of hop, but it seems balanced. Good drink.

On tap @ Hotel De Beer. Clear, dark golden body with a fine beige head. Aroma is malt, caramel, ripe fruit, brown sugar and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is fruity, sweet malt, caramel, fruity and balanced bitter. Very nice.

bottle. pours hazy golden with quickly disappearing white head. Lots of floating sediments. Aroma has notes of Belgian yeast, grainy and some fruits. Taste, yeasty, some malts, light fruits sweetness almost banana putting it right under an abbey style. Finish of light bitterness, with some spices felt on the palate and good bubbly carbonation mouthfeel. Disappointed by the overall palate.

Bottle that came courtesy of Reluctant Scooper and Beer Merchants following a competition I entered, consumed 15-02-09 Many thanks to Simon (Haddonsman) and Phil L Pours a very murky brown with large off white head. Some sweetness and also a touch of sourness on the nose. Taste is fruity, malty, some dark candy sugars, but to be honest a little bit boring unfortunately. A5 A3 F6 P3 OV12 2.9
