In 1935 Willy and Mark Van den Bossche, the 2nd generation, take the helm and further expand the brewery. Ignace son of Mark Van den Bossche, 3rd generation, becomes active in the brewery in 1976. Dark mahogany color; persistent thin head. The aroma is a bit vinous, but also smells like rotten grapes. The flavor is smooth, with some sweetness, and just a touch of woody complexity, not enough, no fruitness nor sourness. Not my kind.

RBSG 07. A good surprise. I didn’t know what to expect as I havn’t been impressed with some Celis beers. Coriander and wheat aroma. Orange in color. Flavor has sweet malt, belgian yeast, some banana, and light spice including coriander and light citrus. Alcohol is well hidden. Bright, cloudy gold color, no visible sediment, and a tall white head.

Bottle. Very dark brown with a thick, but short lived, off-white head. There was plenty of carbonation to start but this died away quickly. Aroma of caramel & dark fruits with roasted notes. Flavour started sweet before an earthy, dry finish with warming alcohol. Unusual and enjoyable.
